Where got engine no problem one... depends on how u use it and maintain it.
If maintain well surely no issue with it one.

Mine is UK-spec 523i Magnesium N52, according to realoem.com, my car manufactured in July '05, no problems whatsoever...

Thanks.

The only common problem with N52 Magnesium Engine is makan minyak hitam problem.

All BMW banyak problem especially those not maintain well.
Good luck

Heard that the makan minyak problem can be minimised by using 0-40w oil. If use 10-40W, seems more severe.

i need to top up engine oil if i use 5-50, now i change to 10-40 no more top up & rev like hell...

previously, how often (in terms of mileage) do you need to top up? what brand of engine oil of 10-40 r u using now?

Just wondering how u guys monitoring the engine oil level? Is it on the OBC? So far mine is ok.
I'm using 10W40 and change regularly at 5k km mileage.

Viscosity plays important part too.. I've been using Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40 more than 3 years now! So far so good

I use Petronas Syntium 3000. Oil change between 10K to 13K km, excellent. 1 and 1/2 bottle during service and top up the remaining 1/2 bottle upon reaching 9K km

better to change oil regularly. one never include the mileage for idling & traffic jam. I've change mine every 5k km with 10W40 without fail

It's all depend on luck. Because you are buying a used car. Early batch magnesium owner usually wait until on board warning only change engine oil. Better go for Lci model with black engine cover.

Thats why I changed oil every 5k km. Engine black cover is for msport version. Its still the same magnesium engine.

1st batch of magnesium engine has silver engine cover, 325i msport pre lci 2007 wears the 2nd batch magnesium which come with black engine cover, as well as LCI 523i, 323i or 525i msport. i heard from my foreman, magnesium with black cover has less problem then the 1st batch.
