Dear forummers,:rock:I am a newbie here. have loved the 5 series for a long time, and finally making a decision to get one.FYI, am looking at a 2006 525i SE UK Spec with mileage 25k only. unregistered just arrived from UK. Asking price was initially Rm267k, but manage to reduce to RM254k. Is this reasonable price? The car is in excellent condition (exterior and interior wise) with built in GPS system with wide screen(however need to install the maps, which they say can install). Push button start, new engine (? - they say latest engine). what else should i ask or look for to make sure am getting a 525i that is in good condition? should i get a mechanic to check? Will it be expensive to maintain?Seller is SDARA motors in Penchala with 1 year warranty. They have their own service centers during warranty period. Does anyone know if they are good dealership? reliable?PLEASE help me my new brothers!!! This is a big investment for me!! Want to make sure am choosing the right one.

Yes, definitely bring it to another mechanic for a proper check-up before you buy. I myself brought mine to MSpeed (Ah Meng) before I bought both of my bimmers (E46 was 2nd hand while E60 was recond like yours, but from Japan). At least it will give you some idea of how good the car condition really is

Uncle,

I would suggest you to have 2nd check on the car.. u can also try at Optimum Motorworks@Kayu Ara or M1@Kayu Ara... since you are investing big, better be sure that the car is in mint condition...

Bro Unchussein,

Just my 2 sen.

I remember reading a newspaper article in relation to the warranty provided by the used car dealers. It stated that based on their investigation, the warranty only valid as long as you service the car according to the regular service schedule/ intervals, i.e. every 25k km, and not more or less than 500km from the said intervals. I don't know whether this is true but it's worth reading the terms and condition properly. Or maybe bro sifus can shed some lights here

BTW, the car dealer is Sadra Motor rite (and not Sdara)? If Sadra, then I still have credit of RM1k there (paid bookings for car but decided to buy elsewhere. And instead of a refund, they said I can used that amount for future purchase.. huhuhu). So, buzz me if u wanna use my credit for your booking fee.

Happy hunting, bro.

Well, depends on how extensive you want to do the checkup. My guess is around RM50-100. Dealership won't send it there. They don't want the hassle and the risk that actually car turns out to have some major problem and you pull out. Also, it's best that you send it there personally. If dealership does it for you, then you have to take their word that nothing is wrong with the car, which sort of defeats the purpose of sending it to 3rd party workshop in the first place.

What you expect from this is for mechanic to tell you if any problems with car. If OK, no issue. If problem, then you have to decide if problem is bad enough that you cancel the sale, or ask for further discount/warranty.

Normally for recond cars, they will just warranty 1 month only and even that for engine and gearbox only. In my case, I found a potential problem with alternator. While they didn't want to give me discount, nevertheless I insisted if any problems they warranty it. True enough, it conked after about 2 weeks and I got a replacement from the dealer.

I'm just completing my purchased of an E60 2004 525i from Sri Sutera, they offer 3 months warranty...feeling a little worried since its a UK spec

I really doubt a 2006 UK car having a 25k KM mileage, doesnt sound right, should be more like 100k. I think dealers are clocking these cars. You cant even get a car with that low mileage here in UK, but suddenly there's a lot of low mileage BMWs in Malaysia. I smell something fishy.
