Hi all, I'm planning to buy a rekon unit E 60 530 year 2003 Japan spec. Wonder what kind of common problems i might be getting into with this unit later on. Will i be able to learn the i drive and all the functions inside the bimmer easily without the manual book as i know that i most probably will be getting the manual in Japanese language  If i want the manual in English, where can i get it? What abt the engine, is it different from the latest engine? What are the other things that also different from the current model? Also, i would like to know when did BMW Malaysia started to introduce this model (E60 530) in our market. And one last question, when i went to view the unit i plan to buy, i notice that the salesman was being extra carefull when he was placing back the wiper properly onto the windscreen and he told me, if the wiper "patah", it will be quite expensive to be replaced, and the wiper did look vurnerable to me, it looks different from the common wiper. My question is, if it has to be extra carefull when u handle it, then, what is the chances i might break it whenever i go to wash my car at the carwash station? Btw, i normally wash my car once a week. Thnx guys.

I am very new to the E60 also. This is a little personal point of veiw after I compare my 06 525i M-sport with my friend 04 530i (AB CBU).

After I drove both car, I found that the 530i with M54 engine is a more powerful car after all. But the power come in around 3000prm and will rave to a very high rev. But for normal daily city drive IMO the new engine (N52) will provide u with a smoother drive. U juz do not feel there is a small power gap between 1000rmp to 3000rmp. But over all the 3L M54 engine is more powerful but a bit noisier. I only drive the N52 525 but never the N52 530, so I do not know how big the different.

I also notice that my friend's 530 with standard package have a softer drive then my M-sport. It is very confertable even with 19" sport rim. But if u like a sportier drive, I strongly recomment u go for the M-sport version. Cause in M-sport version u always feel that your car is sticked on the floor while doing cornering.

I might not be right, and thses is what I feel, after been a E60 owner for 3weeks.

congrats sam on yr plan to buy the lovely ride, the 530 is a great car! the engine is different from the current model available in M'sia; its 1 generation older, the latest engine is the one being launched internationally, but won't be here at least till next year i think..

i wash my car once a week, no it won't break so easily, dun worry:) show us pics when you got the car !

Tnx Eclipes and Thsaw99 for the info. Wonder whats the different between the current model available in Malaysia with the one I plan to buy, btw, the colour will be titanium silver. Also, would like to know in what year did BMW Malaysia 1st started to bring in the 530 model. If it was few years before, perhap the engine would be the same as mine-would-be?

if not mistaken the e60 came here in 2004, sam your car should have the same engine with those brought in by BMW M'sia between 04-05. by 06 i think the engine is the N52 ones...for engine lineup, you can go to wikipedia and search

The 2003 530i comes with the 231 bhp engine (I think) whilst the current AB ones have 258 bhp. I think this engine has just recently been uprated in Europe with 272 bhp. There's just so much development on the 3.0L and whatever version it might be, it's still helluva engine!

If you have the key card with the start stop button, you have the N-series engine.

If you have the key version, you have the M-series engine..

Very easy.. Correct me if im wrong though. Hehe

Well K3nny, in that case I think I'll be getting the M series engine then. The unit I plan to buy use the traditional key. Is there any advantage of using the start n stop button? Do we have to slot in the key card 1st then push the start button to start the enginge? If so, wouldn't this be a little too time consuming if let's say u r in a hurry, maybe in the stituation where u r trying to run away from a maniac chasing u?

 sam u always get maniacs chasing after u ka? what u do dude..? now im curious...:p well if girls chasing after u...are u also running in a hurry..?:D :D

Yes Thsaw99, once in while i do have some maniacs chasing after me. And I beleive, a lot of bimmer owners do experience this kind of situation sometimes in their life. I now drove a merz c class. Last year, they was this maniac, knock on my window and ask me furiously to open the door when i was just abt to take out the key and got off from my car, he looked so furious and i believe he was hiding a knife behind his back. I tell u, driving these kind of cars, will always draw some unwanted attentions.

the 530i is a very good buy all you have to do is geting used to the function and the manual is on sale if you want it you can get from me it cost about 180rm. others parts is very easy to understand get the right workshop to handle your car. again i have just the workshop. finally, go ahead a get it you will get a new feel of driving

Bro, i dont think u will get any manual from the car dealer as CBU japan car do not provide their manual. U can always download it from the internet. Just make sure u get your mechanic to check whether the car dealer adjusted the milleage or not ( using the diagnostic tools ) also check the chassis no with the bMW VIN code to confirm the year make.

No need manual lar. Just post here. We will help. No worries. Me also no manual. Mine also japan specs but mine can use ori radio n navigation! hehehe.

i bought an 04 e60 530i recon from japan (M54B30 engine) and from experience + research these are common problems:
1. cannot listen to local radio (frequency up to 90.0hz only) - can be solved for RM2.5k
2. door seal noise when on bumpy roads (still no solution up to today)
3. fragile windscreen easily chipped by stones

other than that its a great car.

personally i think the engine is powerful but car is heavy so i have plans to supercharge the car with ESS tuning supercharger. hopefully it can beat the N52B30 (which is significantly more powerful than the M54B30) or even the new 272hp 530.

p/s: oh yea the M54B30 fuel consumption is high when revved

Hi Guys, just wonder anyone can give some advices about how to modified my 530 japan spec year 2004 for navigator, dvd player and blue tooth. thks

chong i know a workshop in pj who can change the whole radio for RM2500. according to the guy he is still working on the navigation which should cost about RM7000 (including radio fix). i am holding on until he is ready for navigation. will keep you updated.
