Hello gurus,Just wondering is it possible to fit an E46 M3 instrument cluster into a E46 4 door sedan? Is it just plug and play or do I have to do any modifications? If it is possible, where can I get one and how much is it?Have seen some brothers here which have done the modification beautifully. Can't find any thread on this topic so have to start one. Please enlighten me... Thanks... :D

am no guru but i believe it's just plug and play.. though some gauges MIGHT not work.. namely oil temp, gear selection, and if u are unlucky, even the warning lights might come off too.. i think redline (lighted) wud be wrong too.. not sure..

anyhow, price wud be arnd rm1300 - rm1800 second hand.. worth it? emm.. let me know.. :D

Why would anyone want an inaccurately calibrated gauge for your car?! Having an 8k rpm redline on your tacho doesn't mean your engine can do it, you know!

haha.. :D

Thanks guys for answering. Worth it or not is all up to individual. Personally, after weighing everything, looks like I have to shelf the idea for a while! Thanks again. :D

Save your money for performance mods la... waste money on cosmetics for what?
Dear The Necessary,

I believe modding belongs to different groups. Some will mod to get performance. Some just spend lots of $$$ on ICE alone. Me, on the other hand, loves to mod up my car cosmetically and just enjoy the ride. So, to answer your question, I don't think it is a waste of money coz I feel it is worth it!!!

Performance mods IMHO on an auto slushbox car is a waste of $$$, unless its something major like force induction or engine swap. Intakes, exhaust, chipping etc give marginal gains, alters power curve characteristics (sometimes to detriment of drivability and low end mid range performance) and most of the gains are lost through the slushbox.

Save the $$$ and go for other sorts of mods besides perf if you have an auto car. Basically its still gonna be "slow" after spending that manner for the auto car.

1888,

you're right... to each his own. I mean, if you wanted to put neon orange dials cos you like the colour, sure, I've got nothing to say about that... but to put incorrectly calibrated dials on your car that serves no purpose, well... that's more my "gripe" really, and I guess I really should keep these things to myself... Hahaha.

Purpose la, that's my point, how good will your M3 instrument cluster look when your oil temp doesn't work and your slushbox makes you shift up even before the "yellow line"?

Still, to each his own, I can respect that.

E46f,

you have your point too, but performance mods fall under many categories. Sure, most BMWs will not out run anything much more than a Waja in a straight line, and yes, "power" mods will not make a big difference. But what one could do is upgrade the suspension package, and that would make a big difference to handling.

Bro The Necessary,
Thanks for the advice, man. No offense. I didn't know that by fixing a M3 instrument cluster the oil temp doesn't work and the slushbox gets quirky! That's why I post the question in the first place. Anyway, after what has been said, looks like the plan will definitely be shelved!!! :D (Unless strike lottery lah... )

if u r planning to mod cosmetically, plenty u can do with rm1500 (or 3500 new).. rims, splitter, paint job, stickers, exhaust tips, internal trims, hid, etc, etc.. anyways, u got a nice car already.. :D
