Hello everybody,Want to check with the cifus and gurus, whether is it possible to fix in E46 M3 SMG steering wheel into a E46 325i SMG/SSG cart? And also wondering whether anyone have done it before? Will the paddle shifts work? Thanks for the infos...

i think that can be done.......one of mechanic at uk modify his m3 steering that come with shift gear and put it on coupe with steptronic gearbox.......he claim its work but never seen it.....so,i cant guarantee......but,on my oppinion it will works.....good luck

it can be done. u can also fix the m3 steering with paddle shift into any e46 with steptronic, n use the paddle shift to change gear. bvo in spore will charge sd120 for the wiring. so, u can change the steptronic gear using paddle shift.

the m3 steering with paddle shift is SD990
the m3 steering without paddle shift is SD770
both come without the airbag.
the round airbag is SD1050

rts_4, for ur case, it is plug n play.
no need to do the wiring

u mean the computer wud adjust the + and - of gear selection automatically?? cos on smg1/ssg, it's + when pulled, and - when pushed, for BOTH pedals..

on m3s, + is pulling the right pedal, and - for the left.. no 'pushing' possible.. so how? appreciate ur help..

i've never come across anyone with ssg who retrofitted the m3 smg wheel.. steptronic owners, plenty.. can even get it done in kl.. and rts4, if u happen to find the answer elsewhere, pls let me know.. thanks..

Hi guys,

Thanks for the input.

I did some searching in E46fanatics.com, but cant get the answers. I dare not try it. Scared it could fried the computer. :dunno:

adliz, will update u if i could find the answer.

Thanks.

Yea Energy did this mod on his pre-facelift E46 325i steptronic. The cost is higher cos he had to get the round airbag as his old steering had the rectangle airbag.

Price was ~Rm6k for the conversion done in Stuttgart. He now drives a funny looking M3 steering + SMG paddle shift with Steptronic tranny..

dude, dat wuz diff scenario. energy's car wuz a non-smg :) ;)

Hi YM,

I did that actually, bought the steering from Mr Paddle shift. They retrofit the M3 wheel with SSG paddle.

From Automatic gearbox retrofit to SMG M3 wheel can be done by some wiring mode. But not non M SSG to M3 SMG wheel.

YM, did you change your steering wheel? Coz it looks different.
