I hope someone here can help me to with this.

The hood insulation in my E46 M54 (item 1 in diagram) is in terrible shape so I started out to look for a replacement. Called BA and was told that I can use part 51487050950 which according to them superceeded the 51488193941 in 2002 (The above diagram and part list is for a end 2002 318i.)

A check on the part no show my model is not listed in the new part.

Very confused whether BA is right.

Just drive ur car there, ask them to take out measure on the spot, fit, pay for it, why so care for OE part no.?

Throw the insulation away to keep the engine cooler..

You mean yours have broken into many pieces and start to fall on top the engine. LOL

Fabric on 1 side was torn and the foam exposed and was brittle and crumble to touch. Overall was sagging down.

I didn't say install on the spot, i mean take out measure make sure all clip hole, shape in order, that is. if u can DIY bring back install by urself.
