I'm driving E46, anyone knows why engine temperature goes to maximum until red indicator light when stop the car like in traffic jam? but when i drove the meter move to normal condition (centre). could anyone help me advice? thanks

Could be due to a bad fan clutch/relay?

Other things to possibly look at is the water pump.

From my experience...it's either the thermostat not working or the radiator got pin hole leak.

When you stop at traffic light the engine heat build up, that's why the temp increase. When you drive, the wind from outside cooling down your engine, so temp. go down. Get a mech. to do compression check on your radiator.

It might be a good idea to turn off the engine when the temp reaches 3/4 mark instead of waiting for it to hit the RED zone else you risk seriously damaging the engine. Most of the time the temp needle should be dead center (12 o'clock) and on really really hot days it might go slightly pass 12 o'clock but it should hardly reach 3/4 mark. If your temp reaches the 3/4 mark your aux fan should already be running on high speed and temp should drop. Else there is definately something wrong with your cooling system. Check radiator, water pump, water hoses, thermostate, aux fan, temp sensor, etc..... better have it checked out before you do permanent damage to the engine.
