Hi all bimmers fans,I'm actually looking into getting a UDM next year, looking for a straight 6 and i've read some of the posts in this forum. Would anyone pls enlighten me on a 'neutral & in-depth' comparison (price, performance, general problems, engines, exterior, interior .etc) between the models stated above. Appreciate it a lot! Cheers!

325i, looks like the best of the lot...same hp as the 328 but newer and less on road tax

i recommend doing a search in Google.

The E46 range does have a rather odd larger than normal range.

For 6 cylinders, Pre-FL you have the 325, 328, 330, M3. FL models are 320, 323, 325, 330.

So you have to 1st decide on your budget and the 'look' that you want. Pre FL or FL.

From there, again the budget and what kinda power output you would like. As BMW9700 mentioned, the 325 is the best overall performer, but on real roads, the 328 outperforms the 325.

330 get the 3l motor, but you get upgraded brakes.

etc. So please try a search. The list is rather long.

Depends from where you're coming from too. If you have not owned or seriously driven a car with more than 160hp before, then either the 325 or 328 would feel very powerful. The 325 and 328 has same 192 hp, but 328 torque is 280Nm, while 325 is 245Nm.

But the 325 is newer (around 2001 - 2002 pre FL, and 2002- 2005 FL), while the 328 is older (1999-2000). Interior wise not much different unless you really take time to notice (most obvious one being the steering wheel).

Suggest you take the time to test drive and look at a few cars. That will give you a better idea what you really want.

Good luck bro!

I see. Thanks everyone for tipping me on the range & yr.

I would like to get an e46 325i pre-FL (2001).....i like the straight 6. Preferably if its a mod version (save my time :p) - roughly how much will my dream car cost now?

I'll be driving mostly in the city, shall i get an auto or manual? (i know its a very debatable issue but would like to hear some opinion).

Another thing that i've noticed is the 2nd hand price for 328 is cheaper then 325. Is it true?

Fuh~ A long way more to go before i will found my dream UDM... keke... So excited!

328 is cheaper because:

1) it's before the 325. The 325 replaced the 328.
2) the road tax on the 2.5l is about half that of the 2.8l

Manual vs Auto:

It's up to you want you want. But looking for a 325 Pre FL in manual, you have a hard journey infront of you! Definately no CKD and AB cars.

Really?

I tot the SMG 325's were onl available in FL models.

Good Stuff! :top:

Oh, so it means that its hard for me to find an e46 325i pre-FL car with a stick? Damn, then i had to live with the auto....

Btw, if i get a stock car and mod it with either full hamann or m3 kits....how much will it cost me? I'm trying to calculate whether getting a mod or a stock car n mod it later.

A full original bodykit from any of the tuning companies for BMW will set you back no less than 10k i think (not including the wheels and tires).
