e39 pre facelift vs e39 facelift...

Guys,

For untrained eyes like me, what is the easiest way to differentiate whether the E39 is using M52 or M54. Just by looking at the Year?

A quick visual identification of M54, round fog lights instead of rectangular and body strip without chrome lining!

M54 (round fog lights unless changed entire bumper to M-Sport)

M52 (rectangular fog light and body strip with chrome body lining)

I kept seeing so many nice e39 on the roads and its just so tempting...beautiful car it is...much better then e60 sorry no offence to e60 owners or lovers but its my very personal opinion. Cheers.

Eujax, I totally agree with u ..I also fell in love with e39 rather than e60 ( even though my e60 buddy said bcoz I cannot afford mah..well maybe true ). Im constantly tempted of getting myself a e39 but the maintenance cost really scares me off. . sob sob sob.. have to work harder I guess..

Yeah, thats what I heard too. Compare E34 & E39, its quite a jump in term of maintenance. Any E39 expert here?

On the average, be prepared to put aside RM 500-700 per month to maintain the E39

When you say 500-700 a month, what exactly do you mean?

If it's in terms of repairs, what parts/labour/maintanence is required that one is needed to fork out 500-700 monthly?

I'm guessing that's exclusive of petrol right? since everyone drives differently to different destinations.

Yes, you need to put aside an average of RM 500-700 per month to keep the E39.

The above amount is excluding tyres, petrol consumption, changing rims, bodykits plus other "self-inflict stuffs"...!

well guys.. i dont think so laa... it depend on the condition of the car... if the car is well maintained from the 1st day, u dont have to put that much per month. this is my personal thought base on my personal experience... tq

Hi guys,

Apart from engine difference, being M52(523i) and M54(525i) if i remember correctly, any difference on suspensions, height of the car etc?

Would really appreciate any advice and info as i am looking for an e39 Temporary give up on the 540i, so try to settle with a 520i, 523i or 525i. I would really appreciate if any of you could shed a light as to which variants would give lesser trouble and lower to maintain. Thanks a bunch.
