E46 Charging Light - Blips

Does anyone experience occational blips of battery charging light (on instrment panel) ?Have been happening since few weeks back.Checked alternator charging and service /cleaned alternator : idle 13.5 V goodBattery is about 3 years old.Was told problem may be regulator in the alternator.Does anyone know where to buy a Bosch alternator ( 90 A) Part number ( 12317511604) or replacement part for the regulator, which may be a cheaper option.last alternative is to change to OEM alternator.Any mecanic recomended for such electrical work in Penang ?Pls advise .ThanksOldmanBMPenangE46 - M43 engine 1999

remove the alternator and send it to an electrical shop to have the carbon brushes inspected/replaced.did mine for a total of rm20/-......

Hi Moots,

Thanks for reply. I have actually removed checked and cleaned the bushes .....they are in good order.The shop cannot however test the regulatior which is part of the bush assembly. FYI the pict you posted ,,is the regulator but a little different from mine, maybe as my e46 runs on compct size 90Amp BOSCH alt.

With the cleaning, the intermittent blip is still there .....

Need to find out from rest of readers where can we buy a spare regulator or which replacement alternator to consider.

Or is it by a small chance, the issue is due to bad battery ?

From feed back, looks like I may need to consider buying a new alternator...can those of you reading this thread please revert with some shops and phone number which may carry this part so I can get a good deal....from threads , looks like you guys i KL/Selangor have ample parts shops to go to...pls revrt with a name and number please....so I dont have to pay premium and get from autobavaria.
