Hey Guys,I desparately need help to solve this problem I am facing. Recently purchased a used BMW E39 525i. On the registration card the year of manufacture is stated 2002 and the vehicle is registered in Jan 2008. Took my ride for a post vehicle inspection by my mechanic and was shocked when he informed me from the chasis no.WBADM42050GH82331 the year of make is actually 2000 and it is a 523i model.!!!Can anyone out there support my mechanic's information which he said is from a relaible source where all BMWs has a year of make and model information based just on the chasis no. If this is true then, theprevious owner has been conned by the car dealer located in Damansara including me. All supporting documents (AP) confirms it is a 2002/BMW525i.Any suggestions or help is most appreciated

goh,

previous owner conned or not is already secondary just as long as you paid for a yr 2000 523i M52 and not a 525i 2002 M54. 525i price is easily 25% more than 523i in 2nd hand market. 525i got a newer m54 engine that roams in e60 as well up til 2005/06. Get official confirmation from BMW Malaysia and take legal actions..if i were u.

and by the way KLGOH E39 525 chasis no has the T WBADTM ************. Yours is WBADM**********. Possibly for Japan Market and the Japs 525s is actually 523s. They did not have 525s in Japan at that time. Correct me if i am wrong

guys,
i am not surprised at all about this.. maybe we can blame BMW for confusing us with all the gimmick 523i or 525i..
I believe i pun kena also.. mine is 1999/525i japan spec..
Regn kad , AP declaration form by dealer, even the sticker by the door, all showed 525i..
But when check with computer thingy at authorised dealer, stated 523i ...!
Dont know to get angry or what.. even the used car dealer and JPJ/puspakom boleh lepas, then i guess it is my fault for not checking the engine no first.

It is not BMW confusing the public. It is the car dealer's greed - duping the buyer and making an extra profit by (1) making the car younger and (2) enhancing the model number. Aren't there laws to protect the public ? There may be more unreported cases out there of 523's being sold as 525's. Some owners may be even unaware of this.

it always best to get some advise b4 you buy the car. Human nature once test drive syiok semua pun percaya.

I got cheated once and I told myself never to consider buying recond cars from used car dealers again.. The above is just the tip of the iceberg.. So many people are blissfully unaware they have been cheated..

got some forummers here also knowingly con ppl about the age of their E39 when selling..what more car dealers..

Errmm..who do u pointed to..?? :listen::rolleyes:

that one doesn't matter la...just saying that the world is full of con men, always be careful and you'll be ok

i think its still the best option for u to do a lot of homework b4 jumping into any car ownership. checking the VIN etc is part of the things todo. if u find any discrepancies,u walk away from the car. salesman&some owners they jus wanna sell their cars. not many owner outthere thts straighter than a goalpost. honesty has extict nowadays...

hi guys,

i found this Japan spec 525i manufactured on 01/2001.
a quick check in realoem.com with chasis GR97654 returned as a real 525i with M54 engine.

does this mean Japan indeed does have real 525i ?

M52 engine will have the oil dipstick on the inner of the engine while M54 has the dipstick much closer to the radiator. M54 has double vanos while M52 has single unless it's M52TU.

GR97654 is indeed confirmed a 525i, production 01/2001, M54 engine. Nothing to worry about other than putting aside $$$ to bring the car to a satisfactory condition.

to tell if its a double vanos engine u can see the picture that i attached below.
the bigger compartment circled in red is double vanos while the thinner one is single vanos.

any idea of the reliability of realoem.com and http://bmwfans.info ? it seems that it is not bmw official site.
just curious...
