I've replaced it at Mspeed. RM170 if I remember correctly. Beleived that BMW parts shop should have it but I dunno the part number though.

mine osso damaged upon car purchase.replaced it at RM 170.part avail at bav auto.DIY item but putting back the rubber bung for the accelerator cable/brake vacuum pipe can prove to be quite tricky.

The E39 is notorious for degredation of rubber parts within the engine compartment including the headlights.

At 2 yrs I change my entire angel eyes cos the plastic link inside became brittle and broke off.

At 3 years I changed my windscreen washer hoses. They crumbled to pieces.

Along the way, I changed so many rubber/plastic parts because they deteriorated badly from the heat.

That's why i open the bonnet after my long journey or dry climate every time..:stupid:

Spenzer,
While you are at it, check also the two air cond ducts connecting the air con micro filter to the firewall. These are made of the same material and chances are they could have turned brittle too from the intense heat.

Talking about which, the engine bay really gets hot like crazy. I won't be surprise if you crack an egg on the valve cover, and the next thing you know, breakfast is served with "scramble eggs".

And the only escape vent is the puny little front kidney grills. How else can the heat escape...

BMW7833,

I also do the same. It gets really really hot expecially as soon as i get home after getting stuck in traffic nearing my house.
But coming back from long distance, it isn't that hot since cool air is constantly ventilating the bay.
