Bro,

Can u post the pic of yr DD HU? How much it cost? Where?

It was done at Tehnichi... I had the MK3 Tv before... so it was easy for me to put a ddin in.... however, if u have the normal ori tape deck with obd.. u'll need to reroute to the glove box

Funny thing about ICE, is after all that trouble I hardly listen to them anymore.

I've upgraded mine the usual way - 2 way upfront, amps and subs, went through hell bypassing DSP, got excited a couple of month, halfway thru simple carputer project but stopped since couldn't find the AV input... etc..

Nowadays, I only blast them when I'm stuck in the jam. Once speed picks up, I would turn it off and listen to the engine and concentrate on the road instead.

(... or maybe I need new downloads ...)

How big is yr 2 way comp mid size? Did u install at the door panel? What is DSP?

initialM,

The main parts...
5 1/4" Focals, mids inside the door panel, tweeters on dash.
2x 12" subs hanging from rear dashboard (weight helps the to look lowered also.. ).
2x Alpine V12 amps.
and No other speakers at the sides or rear.

Setup is pretty simple, ok enough for my un-demanding ears.

The car comes with SatNav Mark II (I think..) with 4:3 screen, factory fitted amp and DSP. Don't know much of the use of DSP aside from having built-in 5 (or 6?) band EQ.

What's you plan?

I would love to hv the same set up as my E36. Since got some space issue wt E39 my plan as follows:-

1) Double Din Touch screen wt DVD, MP4 & TV tuner HU
2) 2 sets 2 way component speakers
3) 1 unit 12" subwoofer wt box
4) 1 unit 2 channel amp to drive the subs
5) 1 unit 4 channel amp to drive the speaker components

Haven't decided which brand to go yet as budget quite tight now. Mite wait lil longer as I'm quite fussy wt my car:smokin:

InitialM,

Not all E39 owner's are uncle lar... Some crazy about speed, some crazy on ICE like you. . Just wanted to share the experience with you. I am also crazy on ICE as I wanted to make the cozy feeling inside the car when traveling. Here my ICE setting

1) Head Unit - Still original with Stingray RCA Power control module
2) 6 1/4" component - JBL GTO series at the front. Tweeter & Mid at original place, only the mid I need to make some oversize to the original box.
3) 5 1/2" Two way - At the back. Same location at the original place.
4) 2 x 12" Sub - JBL GTO series mounted at the back with board.
5) Amplifier - 4 Channels JBL Grand Touring Series for the component and 2 Channel Monoblock JBL for the Sub-woofers.

The installation done nicely and I couldn't notice any changes (outer part) to the original setup. It is still like the original from your eye but yet the sound coming out... enough for me to headbang :smokin:

I wanted to install the HU to Double Din Monitor player but still waiting for some budget la. Few things still under my consideration, the DD Cover & I still want to use my buttons at the steering wheel.

Pls update if you have install the DD HU.

No offence lar bro just that not many into ICE. Anyway nice set up u hv there:top:

Care to demo for me? No worry will update once done. Now still doin research & waiting for budget:burnout:

P/S: Bro ISMA pls join us as i need yr poison err advice on ICE :smokin:

I have the following equipments
1) Nakamichi CD700 MKII Single DIN HU - with 24Bit DAC
2) Indash Nakamichi 5-disc changer

Plan to put those into the dash, removing the original player. Will have to forgo the controls. No wires cut. (Just got to think where's best to get remote power for the HU)

Then, for speakers I have a set of 3-way Alpine F1, made by scanspeaks with 7", 4.25" and 3" tweeter. Plan to put the 7" on the door (using the existing 5" location), kick panel for 4.25" and tweeter on dash. Original kick panel and door panel won't be cut, but, will have to replace with fibre mouldings, leather wrapped. Will keep the originals. Will have to use dynamat extreme to strengthen the doors and interior door panels because the 7" will "act" like subs too. The door becomes enclosure. 7" can go down to bout 30hz rolling off slowly.
The F1 comes with a very flexible, tri-amping capable and big passive x-overs, so, can place these under the dash.

As for amps - I have 1xHelix A2 competition series and 1xA1 competition series. Can place the amps underneath the front seat as it is very thin, nice black housing - german made.

That's what I have in mind but not done cause I'm considering changing amps.

InitialM,
If you'd like some clean powerful with control sound, the Helix is great. I wouldn't mind letting them go if you're keen. I'm also selling off my 12" genesis sub with custom-made enclosure. The sub is good for sure, just that, I don't want to go into using subs anymore. therefore, a 3-way front is necessary. My sub have monster Z-1R cabled up all the way, between amp and sub. I also have some 4awg monster/streetwire power cables and 4gang fuse blocks. I'll like to really embark on ICE on the E39...and I'm considering using a Class A amp from my fren..

Maybe we can share share ideas.....

Fuyooh yr ICE set up are top range of high end brand. Cant afford ler. I'm interested in yr plan for 3 way comp set. Pls update us wt pic:top:
BTW how much u selling the subs?

hi initialM,
The sub, less than Rm1k including the custom-made box. A lot of extras in the box itself... it's 12". Box is a double-layer 0.6", using rockford paste to practically reduce vibration, very good for SQ and SQL too. Dark grey carpet wrapped. There's some dyna-xsorb in the box too. I used it for SQ only - so, very very good condition - properly ran in already...deep warm bass.

I upgraded my ICE slowly last time while I was driving a jap car, much smaller jap car and found the setup too much for the car..haha....

this is why i got into an E39 since the car is very silent, very very little windnoise and seems the car's interior is good for ICE....

I'm still uncertain of my approach and very worried of the setup in BM - heard can get aeroplane sound!

My thoughts at this moment is to put the amp under seat so that the power cable is from behind while my RCAs are in front - so, basically, the RCA and power liines are separated. Also need to lay properly the RCAs but I havent seen the condition under the carpet yet.

Interested in the amps too?

Who know's any shop that carry the DICE BMW IPOD Integration Kit in KL ???

:top:DONE. DIY the DICE Ipod for BMW into my car. Now can access the Ipod through the original player and all the playlist/album/artist came out.

Only thing still puzzle why only on the meter instrument not the centre stereo instrument. Need to ask them on this.

oops. you said DIY.
Was it difficult? Which stereo do you have? TV/Navi? Std stereo? DSP?

No,it is quite easy  (the not so easy part is to part away your money to buy it online). My stereo is the stanard E39 cassete stereo with CD changer at the back.
If you buy this thing, you can google it in youtube or their web site, they will guide you all the way how to DIY the thing.
Cheers
