Dear all, Like to ask what is the difference between original BMW battery (white ones) compare to aftermarket? Does it affect alot or almost similar? What is the original size for e39 anyway? Does different engine capacity uses different size battery? Please pardon my beginner question. Appreciate your kind info. Regards

my '97 528i came fitted with yokohama din66 battery and has been fine since i bought the car in feb 2009.bigger capacity batteries are required for cars that have heaters for steering wheels.seats.wing mirrors, door locks, windscreen washer jets,REST button function etc etc.
for our intents and purposes,it would just be wasteful to fit high capacity batteries when it is not required.the e39 can accept 3 battery sizes.mine is the smallest.

Thanks guys for the quick reply. Appreciate it alot. Guess will check out the prices of original and non original before concluding. Was advised to go din88 as well but never heard of din100 so far. Guess that is really for heaters features from oversea.

My e30 have a din66 on it which i got recently, last bout 2 years on average. Maintenance free ones. Heard the wet ones last longer....perhaps would try that next round.

Regards

I changed mine to BOSCH Ca-CA S4 (Calcium Silver Alloy) 100ah 1 month ago. The previous batt was TRANE 88ah lasted for 6yrs. It's also a Silver Calcium Tech battery.

Hi bimmerholic, thanks for the info. Where did you get the batt and how much does it cost u?

Should meet up one day over tt to check out each other's ride :)

Regards

Hi all,

Was quoted RM 1200 for an original BMW din90ah battery and another RM 100 for labor to install. Do you guys think its worth it? Does the car need resetting after battery change?

Thanks and appreciate your info. Cheers...

I don't think it's worth it unless you belong to the type that you must have everything "original". Many owners have commented that you could actually have a new battery for about RM 500 as installation is FOC. If you are lucky, the shop may also take-in your old unit for RM 50. Nett, you could only be paying RM 450? Good enough for at least 4 years since battery mounted in the rear last twice longer than battery located in the engine bay. No resetting needed for battery change. Your call, bro.
