Wondering if it's possible to recode a spare key for this type of key....
DSCF9392.JPG
I have a spare but I need to get it coded.Anyone can advise if possible? If not, how do I go about getting a spare remote done?TQVM

I think the TS want to recode his spare key which is not working.

You dont need to recode the key. Most probably the battery is weak.
Just change the battery and re-sync back the key.

Why would need to recode it if your engine is not original anymore if thats the case bro. You wouldn't need it to be coded.

Cheers

Ah yes... You are both correct.

The remote is used for unlocking and locking the doors. The previous owner passed me two keys but one is not working. Am thinking that the remote is not the correct one. So currently I only have one key that can unlock and lock the doors. Would like to get the other one working. Was wondering if there was a way to check if the key coding is correct. Had put in a new battery in the spare but still no luck.

Have not tried syncing the key as was not aware of this. Will try.... thanks Jarance. :)

seech,

can your spare key start the car? If yes, then the coding of the key is correct. if cannot then you need to recode the key to the EWS.

If can start the car but cannot open/close the door via remote, then you just need to re-sync the key via the above procedure.

Hi Jarance.

As my car is 'special', just need the remote to open the doors. Will try what you suggested when I get back this evening.

BTW, where is the receiver for the IR remote? Same as the E39 under the rear view mirror?

Thanks.

I think your car should be able to start if it is special. The EWS will give a "GO" signal to DME when it detect the correct transponder in the key. Since your DME is different, whether you have the right key or not, it will still start the car when you turn the ignition key.

For the Key IR remote operation, the key connect to GMV module which control the doors and power windows. The GMV module communicate with EWS3 and DME module via CAN/K-bus.

Yes, the IR receiver for the key is under the rear view mirror. In the case of diamond shape key, the rear windscreen demister is the antenna.

Thanks for the info Sifu. :)

I actually have two sets of keys. One to unlock the door and one for ignition. Took the remote module from the door key and transferred to ignition key so can use just one key to open doors by remote and start the car......

Very complicating arrangement..... Hopefully can program my other key so have a spare remote.

I am curious to see both of your key.

One to open and the other to start.. Most probably another to manually open boot?

Hi Sifu Jarance. The remote resetting worked! Thanks. At least now I have two remotes. :)

One set of keys was the original set which came with the car so it opens all the doors and boot. At some point in time there was an issue with the ignition so it was changed with another set of keys so one for ignition. So what I did was to fit the door remote to the ignition key.

Glad to hear that you managed to resync your key.

Now to combine both keys to be one key..:burnout:
