great web there bro...i've key d VIN num, it show the engine is M42. hmm..but my geran engine capacity show 1991cc... possible the engine block been transplant by the previous owner?
I don't think so. Anyway, JPJ also wouldnt be able to tell. Perhaps when the car was registered in Malaysia, it wasn't done properly without the proper documents indicating the details of the car.
My e36 also UK-spec with the proper information on the car grant.

Check your registration card's engine number and actual engine number? They should be the same. If they are not the same, then there is a possibility that the engine have been changed.
btw, the actual engine number is located on the passenger side, almost just at the bottom/centre of the engine. It is quite difficult to check.. You need to have a powerful torch and good eyesight to see it.
Honestly, just take a picture la.....its a small issue here only. IF yours is indeed a M42 then go to puspakom and have an inspection and find out whether its possible to correct the mistake. What advise you want some more with regards to the engine number, the VIN already indicated its a M42 la. The next thing you may wanna do is to check the engine number and see if its indeed a M42, which I think you can do on the realoem website.
i juz get dis new beemer n would like to know wat kinda engine i've.thats all. i think all the new owner of each car will hv d same feeling too. not much of different for road tax of 1.8cc nor 2.0cc.
i think dyno test wouldnt able to determine d capacity of an engine. as for my previous civic, i've 250wph on dyno for a 1.6cc engine, which is even higher than a 2.0/2.2cc stock engine. it depend on wat d owner hv done to the engine.
k..finally able to find the BMW engine number identification code. Can confirm mine is M42.the geran wrongly type. refer to the attached for your future usage
