hi sifusi really need help from u guys. whenever i stop after more than 1 hour driving on hiways (150-160), my baby wont crank. turn the ignition key and all lights lit as usual but she wont crank. i got to wait half to 1 hour untill she cooldown to crank (depend on weather). i dont think overheating since the indicator shows regular operating temperature when the engine is running (climb up a bit when stop). i have to wait she cool down lower than running termperature to crank. it happened in this 2-3 months and no problem before that and i drive my baby the same way since i bought her. i have to keep the engine running when refuelling or drinks at RnR. the engine is standard, no modifications at all (YET). somebody said the problem is some kind of connector at the ignition key, not the engine/ starter/ battery. but your opinion is more important. my baby is '91 e34 m50b20 manual Really appreaciate your views. thanks a lot.

Looks like a problem with the starter..., in next ocassion when it happen, try to use a wooden stick, knock on the starter few times, then try to start your car. If it start your engine, change the starter as soon as you can.

Good luck.

No problem. I strongly feel that is your starter dying...

keep us updated...

i have to figure that out..

It is at the end of your gearbox, either on the left or the right side of the GB depending on type. You should be able to see it near / below your dipstick on an M50 engine or it will be on the other side, a small black box on your GB.

Sorry but I don't have any pictures with me now, try googling for it.

thanks

i ve never been in long distance trip since i post my problem.. the problem wont occur in short distace trip. so i cant give u any update. i ll post as soon as i have the chance to a long trip.

What wan520i mnetioned is pretty true . Maybe you need a metal rather than a wood to do the magic - to wake up the dying starter. At times, since your car is manual ... u can also push it little further ( like 10-20 feets ) and try cranking it again .Ultimate solution -change starter . But find out what is the problem 1st.

BTW , its a common problem for us to find the starter location .

Do share with us later on the finding and solution , will be great help.

Complained to my mechanic and he installed a bigger relay for starter.. the problem never reoccur since.. sold my car in 2013.
