blackhowling: oops sorry if I was mistaken but based on the engine output figures just thot it would be similar. Anyway just refer to the engine output figures and use your own judgements.

M20B20 ~ 130BHP
M20B25 ~ 170BHP
M50B20 ~ 150BHP
M50B25 ~ 190BHP

Of course you need to take into consideration the torque figures as well as the peak power at what rpm la.

Err no lar e34 is 1989 to 1996 ...the e39 if not mistake is in 1997 and it has a different engine

If I'm not mistaken, the early E39s carried the same engines as late E34s i.e. for the 520i (24 valver) at least. The early E39 528i had the same engine carried over from the E36 328i.

M50TU ----> Introduction of Vanos (e34, e36), 1993

M52 ----> Engine block made from aluminium alloy (e39, e36, e38, e46), 1995

M52TU ----> Double Vanos (e46, e38, e39) 1998

M54 ----> Drive by wire, new ignition coils, 2000

The current generation engines are the NXX series, with valvetronic and magnesium alloy blocks. Next to come to Malaysia would those with High Pressure Injection.
