e34 m20b20 under power??

hi to all e34 owners!i am planning to get an e34 m20b20 engine. is it under power? automatic. please advise.

Yup definately, a 129BHP engine hauling around a 1.5 ton car. sure no power la.
Get a 525 (M20) or 520 (M50) minimum. Of course 525 (M50/52) will be better.

Well, if you are planning to get the M20B20, make sure you dont test drive a M20B25 or M50B25.

520i 24V = M50B20
525i 24V = M50B25

520i 12V = M20B20
525i 12V = M20B25

The 525i 12v with auto is still slightly slow off the line but once you get going I think its ok. If you can get a rare 525i 12v manual then it will be much better and plenty of oomph especially a chipped version. .

The 520i 24v power will feel very similar to a 525i 12v auto I believe. The ideal will be the 525i 24v of course.

blackhowling: oops sorry if I was mistaken but based on the engine output figures just thot it would be similar. Anyway just refer to the engine output figures and use your own judgements.

M20B20 ~ 130BHP
M20B25 ~ 170BHP
M50B20 ~ 150BHP
M50B25 ~ 190BHP

Of course you need to take into consideration the torque figures as well as the peak power at what rpm la.
