hi to all sifusi feel like lowering my car but dun wanna lose the comfort...so my question is..can i just put in lowered springs on my stock absorbers? will it compromise the ride?thanks a lotric

Here's an article taken from e34.net. your call...

There is a long held myth about so called lowering shocks or shocks designed for lowering springs with reduced travel versus shocks designed for standard or taller springs. The best way to visualize it without physically looking at the shocks side by side is...the only tangible difference is the stroke is shorter in a shock designed expressly for a lowering spring...the throw is shorter. Full jounce position or fully compressed shock position is exactly the same...that is the critical factor for bottoming...wh ere the jounce bumper fully compresses onto the top of the strut collar nut threaded onto the strut housing...that shoulder position is the same for either shock and each shock will identically compress into its cartridge casing. With a standard Boge shock lets say..the throw of the rod internal to the shock is a bit longer..that's all...so the shock is cabable of "extending" farther...at full suspension rebound or when the suspension arms are fully down with a taller spring. With a shorter spring..you don't need a longer throw shock...however..this is the important part...Is putting a standard Boge with longer travel with a lowering spring bad? Absolutely not...you just end up not using the full travel capability of standard shock with a shorter lowering spring... that's all. All the speculation of a standard shock..say Boge..wearing out faster with a lowering spring...is a myth.

Great atricle! I've been using Bilstein(by eibach) lowering springs with standard shocks for about 2 years now and i'm quite happy with it. Handling is great but ride suffers a little as the reduced suspension travel can make highway cruising slightly bobby. But still way way better than a lowered japanese car.

You want my Bilstein springs? I'm thinking of going back to stock.

Me too. Running eibach lowering springs on Bilstein OEM shocks. Looks great (no more the huge gap under the front fender), handles good, comfort good but find it a bit choppy on undulating roads. Maybe my shocks are on its way out. Will think of changing to sport shocks as replacements later in the year.

Ya Flash, sure looks great without the fender gap. I found the ride very very choppy at first but now as the shocks age it's almost like a non lowered car except when it hits the bump stops. Where do you get your shocks bro? I'm looking for Bilstein HD.

sport shocks are nice. bimmerman and flash, go for B8's. u wont regret. its not very hard la.

usually before i leave for work from home, i will put some milo powder, hot water, ice cubes and milk in a container. then i'll put the container in the car. by the time i reach work, it'll be milo shake! hahahaha. nola...just kidding. its not that hard. :D

fwiw, i read in the bilstein catalog that bilstein HD should not be paired with lowered springs. they recommend the yellow short stroke version. (apparently there is also a yellow normal stroke version).

dudes...when u lower the car....is it the front that only goes down..the back remains pretty the same since back already looks low

I did consider the B6 for it's long stroke but never the B8. I might use the B6 on stock springs for a firm but pliant ride. The wife is expecting and I want the car to ride like a luxobarge and not a sports car. Besides, it's a 520i so how fast can I go anyway?

Anyone know how much are B6? or HD? and where to get? Bavarian Auto only sells Boge. Anyone?

hi all sifus
having trouble accessing the forum lately ..stupid streamyx *&^&^$&^*(
anyway thanks for all the great input...bro bimmerman how much are u asking for the springs?
thanks

looking at RM600 bro. Cheers! Now can anyone guide me to a shop that sells bilstein?

ok thanks bro...am interested but still undecided if i should keep it stock or mod...anyway good luck with the sale :)

the ride is good lar....can fill it to be a lil bit firmer only....riding on stock SACHS aborbers.and Eibachs...the drop is nice lar....

back drops a lil below the tire...front it like amybe 1 1/2 fingers
