If overprice, then better buy kereta sorong... semua overprice... huh

my remark was based on fact that for a little more, you can get yourself an ORIGINAL late model E30 325i manual. i'm sure it can be yours at 35k; a much better proposition than a 29k car with a converted engine. try your luck, call the 325i owner at 019 281 9044.

Some response I've read before about M42 vs M44:

The M42 has a forged steel crankshaft with eight counterweights. The M44 has a cast steel crankshaft with four counterweights. Forged steel is stronger. It would also make sense to me that the forged crankshaft with more counterweights would have more inertia. Inertia works both ways so the M44's crankshaft would take less energy to get it spinng, but the M42's crankshaft likes to stay spinning.

I have noticed that the M42 is less fuel efficient than the M44, but that may be due to other factors. The M42 feels better when revved hard, and I think the crankshaft being forged has a lot to do with this.

M44 uses OBD II as well, M42 on OBD I. And also, M42 still on AFM whereas M44 got the nicer MAF. :)

If you read more from overseas bimmer forums, the consensus is that the M42 have more mod potential compared to the M44... One thing for sure, the M42's forged crankshaft is more durable and it's got 8 counterbalance compared to the M44's cast iron crankshaft with only 4 counterbalance.. However, if you're not a mod head, the M44 is more than enuf in the E30.

So in short, the M42 is the choice if u want to mod it/use it hard/track it and the M44 is more for normal use with more modern leanings and better fuel efficiency.

U can only read so much..its good to get 1st hand infos from actual users.

I would be quite tempted by that M44 E30 to be honest.
But I already have mine, albeit with a M40.

Indeed.. nice looking car that, clean engine compartment and tastefully done.

I need an e30 for weekends at the track. Not planning to use my 335i for the track, understandably. Not looking for crazy power,I got the 335i for that, what I need is something that handles well, can take abuse(n/a engine) and of course one with a manual box.

hehe.. have been tracking my E30 M42 for the past 6 years. The M42 can really take a lot of abuse... It's had been my daily drive, weekend track machine and also taken on numerous long distance trips... even after 160,000km of abuse, it still wasn't slowing down. (160,000km since I put in the engine 7 years ago, not sure whats the mileage of the engine before i bought it)...

You're my idol bro!!!! U led me to my current e90 335i remember?

Now hopefully I can get a good honest e30 for me to play with.. looking for something like urs hehe..

yeah i saw that Perak E30 with M44 engine ad too..... looked good in the photos esp. the clean exterior! even tho the aging leather seats with wrinkles.....

How much you guys think I could nego down from the asking price of 28.8K?

FYI, i don't own any beemer but would like to look for one as a weekend baby....

cheers!!!

yeah dat e30 m44 looks good..but if u want to buy it better go and see the car, have a test drive..then decide whether to buy or not..if i havent got my e30 yet i would buy this m44..

nego price..im not sure..maybe around 24-25k??

any potential problems with spareparts later on since this is the not-so-common Z3 1.9 M44 engine? I'm still at the learning stage of beemers..... been reading up alot in google and wiki lately....

yeah.... maybe will go look at the car next month during one of my monthly in-laws visit at Ipoh.... from the description of the owner it sounds like the owner runs a car workshop.... dunno.... i could be wrong....

most wear and tear parts are common with the M43 so no issues on that... except for engine internals, but can be sourced thru local parts dealers or from S'pore.

Not sure about dat but if im not mistaken some e36 models also using this m44?if yes then should be no problem..

btw im new with beemer too..last time was with honda..heheh..in learning stage same like u..

not M43 tho.... the indigo comes with M44...

Bro, what I meant was that most common wear and tear parts on the M44 is common sharing with the M43... Except for engine internal parts...

Can't read between the lines???

There are some E36 318is with M44 engine here in MY, but the numbers may not be high... Parts availability is not difficult to find if you know how and where...

If still sked, buy proton, sure no issues finding parts... ;)
