Damn I missed this TT session...Got caught with some family matters....Lovely e30s over there...Long way to go for me :(

from what i saw yesterday, i'm sure there will be more sessions to come. anybody is welcome to organize the next one by merely starting an invitation thread..

also don't worry if you're taking a while to get your E30 to where you want it to be. even those fortunate enough to have bottomless pockets took about a year to restore their E30; so for us normal civillians, it is only natural we take a bit longer

e30 assist

e30 forumers,

i'm the midst of restoring an e30 that has been kept in the workshop for 2 years. the model actually belongs my folks and i'll be taking ownership onwards. i have a lot of love to this car, which explains why in certain extent i'll be expecting to spend lots of effort (esp money) to bring this baby to pristine condition. i'll also be expecting to prepare a lot of documentations, as this car would have to be re-insured, re-inspected, etc.etc.

it'll be great if there's any e30's enthusiasts that can share the same sentiment so that perhaps we can share some tips & advises so that the joy of owning the e30 would be everelasting. im aware i missed the gathering session yesterday but i do hope if there's any tt session i'll be more than happy to join.

some little details regarding the car:

1985 325i ETA
2.7 cc
2 door
left hand drive (brought from US)
full leather seat (black) - factory specs

for the nearest concern, i'll be expecting to settle the outstanding fees from the workshop that is located in kajang bus terminal and tow the car to the nearest workshop. Problem is, i'm still uncertain to which workshop i can bring to that is within kl district. fyi, i'm staying in ampang. i've been approached by couple of pomen, but i'm still not convinced truly. i've figured to take account from you guys since you would have known best.

anyway, attached is some of the pics of the car i'm going to restore. the pics is kind of blurry as it was taken from cellphone. feel free to take a look of it and appreciate if any input . i cn be contacted via msg or my hp at 0122980269.

cheers mate!

tequilashots, how far are you willing to go with this restoration project? what level of condition are you aiming for? what shall be the purpose of this car when ready?

tequilashots, how far are you willing to go with this restoration project? what level of condition are you aiming for? what shall be the purpose of this car when ready?

good question.

the objective of the restoration of the car is basically aimed for daily drive. i'm not a big fan of kicking up bhp to manic levels because that defeats the purpose.

the level of condition of the car i shall be projecting perhaps to be factory condition. as i'm accustomed driving in left hand drive, i have no plans to change it to right because that would tamper the optimal conditions of the car.

generally, the nearest objective is to :
1. restore the engine to running condition;
2. restore the leather interior with minimal intervention;
3. touch up paintwork. (i'd love to change to dark grey anyhow)

in terms of budget, i'm looking to spend more than rm5k but no more than rm8. any more i have to simpan la.. otherwise i senget .. hehe.

if you keep your expectations as per your explanation, RM8k just might be sufficient; provided the engine doesn't require overhaul/replacement, seats don't need full re-upholstery & there is no rust on firewall/floor/trunk.

any more detailed you need to present your car to a sifu. i'm just a padawan here.

Generally from the pictures, the condition looks okie, not too shabby.

Is the engine still running? For the ETA engine, parts are cheap and aplenty. That engine itself is quite hardy, so I presumed very little minor repairs is needed.

As for restoring the interior, that depends whether it is worth to touch it up and re-wrapped the seats. If you plan to re-wrap it, Ah Kit at Kg Subang (Top Cushion) did a decent job on my cars.

Cheers

hey dudes, great sessions yesterday...awesome turnout, hopefully lebih banyak E30 could join these sessions. here are some of the "show stoppers" yesterday.

a few upskirts and topless shots for the boys to oogle over...huhuhu

ALBundy, thanks for the reply.

referring to your question, it's hard to say whether is running condition as it has been "suspended animation" mode for 2 years. i would expect the engine would require several major routine changes on parts that experienced high wear and tear.

i'd have to charter a pomen to actually come to observe the condition as i'm not totally familiar with the engine itself. now i am quite a crossroad of whether to charter a pomen (of course with a fee) or tow the car to a reputable workshop. towing a car, alas, is an expensive affair.

i've been browsing couple of workshops within the klang valley area and sadly to say they've put my case in slow burner. (perhaps going there on a lone cowboy approach were not too effective). there are some in pandan indah (whr i stay) but going towards previous posts, i observe there are several workshops to avoid from. small workshop vs big workshop ?

the philosophy is that i'd rather spend couple of extras for quality, rather than going cheap. getting a reputable workshop looks harder than i thought. any tips on any reputable workshops within klang valley area ?

Good pictures rockonla, WJV998 is definitely one of the better species with plenty of attention to even minute details!! Well done ;)

the pics are sweet.

perhaps the topless model is definitely a show stopper.

wcc913 - nice paint work . is that dark grey ? because that's definitely the color i'd like to repaint on my car.
