Driver Airbag

I am newbie. Need advise from All Sifu. I m ride 318 E36 AT 1999 last batch. My problem are sound or noise came from my under Steering ( nearby airbag ) everytime turning the steering. Asked echanic said that some item related airbags was loose. Any advise plse. Should open like myself like DIY. Or may i remove total airbag or replace new steering. Plse advise me, thks.

Hi There,

There are few things that can be damage. For example : 1) The Slip Ring under the steering
2) The Main bearing inside the Upper Steering Rack

What to be replace : 1） Used Slip Ring cost about RM200 but normally ppl sell the whole steering
2) The whole Upper Steering Rack (RM 250)

You can check and i have all the part you need. But all this you need to reset the air Bag Error that may cost RM100.

Very simple to verify actually.... Remove the steering completely and lock back the center nut. Use a Big Spanner as replacement for the Steering and turn the nut. See whether any sound come up.

If no, then it is your steering. Then you can troubleshoot from there.
