Hi,been searching the forum for the past few days, I want to ask, when i drive an e34 520i manual, and try to shift from 1st gear to 2nd gear, the gear knob vibrate and produce a cracking sound...kreeek....before sending it off to the hospital, I want to know what is the possible cause?you see, the sound is like when you drive your car forward(most car, my myvi also same), and you try to shift to reverse gear while the car was not fully stop, and the gear will produce this kind of cracking sound...what happen haa? is it the clutch? I do think, if I tarik or tighten or shorter the clutch (so I just can step on the clutch paddle and depress it a little) please shed some light to me guys...and the cost for the possible cause of the problem...thanks in advance...

worn synchronizer at 2nd gear. try to engage the gear slower, better if 1st > N > 2nd. u can try to change gear oil. I tried redline MTL before, it solve the grind when transmission is hot but not when cold.

If no effect, better check the whole synchronizer (including synchro. ring, sliding sleeve, synchro. body & clutch body), check for worn out teeth, or any sign of brushing.

If you keep shifting rough with the grinding, your synchro. ring may break one day and you will get free gear even you engage the gear, and if broken pieces fall between the helical gear, then you will hear loud noise from the gearbox.

Your myvi grind in reverse gear because the transmission main shaft still turning in a particular direction due to inertia and suddenly u make them contact with the reverse gear sleeve which turn in reverse direction, sure they will grind to each other.

Sometimes in some car with no synchronizer for reverse gear, even when the car has just fully stop (from forward) and you engage reverse gear you will still hear the grind as there is no synchronizer for the reverse gear. Input shaft still turning fast and suddenly the power get connected with the mainshaft which is static.

thanks bro for the explanation, I cancel the deal to buy the car (which got the problem mentioned), buy another car and another model instead...
