Hi there, I have a 2012 F10, barely 3 months old (its gonna be 3 months old in 2 days!) Last night. a stone hit the front windscreen. below the rear view mirror (not in the line of sight) and the glass chipped and a 1 cm(approx) crack appeared! :(So now, I am planning to send it to be repaired. I did google and see that there are some 3rd party options available. Is it ok to use these 3rd party options, or should I use the BMW Glass Repair? I am paying it myself, not claiming it.Has anyone tried these 3rd party options? I am worried about the wipers not being smooth after this, but I have heard horror stories from people who have sent their BMWs back for repair to the dealers, it seems not as good as those US dealers :\Thanks.(note: I have checked, and thankfully it did not hit the sensor for the auto lights and wipers)

If you have windscreen cover why don’t you try to get a replacement windscreen (I believe it doesn’t affect the NCD) ? Otherwise, I have tried a 3rd party (non-BMW) repair. I have no issue with the wipers operation. But there is still a mark after the repair.

You should go back to the authorized workshop to replace your windscreen. Imagine the consequences if the third party bangla damage your car accidentally when removing the windscreen from your car. I had mine replaced at 4.7K.

If you're quick enough and bothered to tape over the crack before it gets exposed too long to rain, you might be able to get away with just using the folks e.g. Dr. Cermin or Windscreen Repair to do crack repair. I've used those type of service in the past for almost all the cars that I've had at one point or another with no issue except for the minor mark after repair.

However if they assess and say cannot be repaired, then go back to BMW. Just got mine replaced in Quill Puchong. Workmanship on the replacement was good, only gripe was they lightly scratched my A pillar which cheesed me off to no end since I reminded them to be careful before that. 1st claim of the year on windscreen replacement does not affect NCD of your insurance. HOWEVER, after claiming would mean that there is no more coverage for the same occurrence within the same year.

The claim will not affect the NCD. But you will need to re-instate the coverage after that if the remaining period on your insurance coverage still have a long way to go. If you have sufficient coverage, you may also claim for the film tinting cost. I've submitted my claim on E60 with good invoice so my reinstatement cost was automatically paid for :D

I have changed my windscreen just for the 2nd time. Twice full replacements and it has only been 4 months of ownership...sigh....wasn't even driving fast. latest one was from debris on the road that got directed at my windscreen by a 911 turbo on penchala link.

If it is early in the year, I would suggest to re-instate your windscreen coverage which is what I have done for the second time. Then if anything happens, you can claim again.

This may a bit off the topic, but i can't help but point out a racial term used by hillgosh. I know what you mean by unauthorized workshop quality but the guy doing the work there could just as well be from any other race on the planet. No need to state race or religion here. We are after all, a multiracial country.

UPDATE POST #1: Well, I was soooo disappointed with AB Glenmarie, where we got our F10. First called the SA who is a bit blur sadly, (I learnt how to use the car through this vid by alexlovesmac on youtube. Had to watch it a few times after we got the car. -_-), and guess what? She told that Auto bavaria Glenmarie has no such Glass Repair service. So fine, I went to my regular knock shop, really nice guy near the Metrobus depot near the Goodyear Court, he got this guy to come and take a look, luckily the damage was repairable. Thank God. RM120 only. Mind you there was a small debris (remnant of the stone) that was stuck in the crack. Don't know how they got it out. But the thing was I was running late so I could only send in the next day. In the mean time I kept it in the house, which helped prevent any more dirt from entering.

Anyway, that evening, about 5pm I was surfing BMW Germany (I found our Malaysian site a bit lacking in terms of info for support), and I discovered Glass Repair was availible in Malaysia! Called Auto Bavaria directly and the lady at the support desk said that they do have it, but I have to make an appointment ONLY AFTER THE SC HAS SEEN THE DAMAGE, which by of which time, there was a high tendency the crack will be larger, and it was a Thursday evening, so high chances if I sent to AB it will only be done by Monday. I tried to make an appointment before hand, but their phone system hangs me up halfway.

So back I went to my regular repair guy on Friday, and believe it or not, he told me it will be ready by noon! Brilliant, but he did even better, he sorted it for me in less than 1 1/2 hours! very efficient i must say!

And interestingly, when I took back the F10, under light, I could see the after effect of the damage repair, but the next morning it looks perfect. 100% clear. I was expectinbg the worst after hearing that some said the repair will only help conceal the damage about 70-90%. But my foreman did tell me that it can appear again, as it is just a sealant, but in most cases it won't.

I must say, compared to my ex car (company owned Hyundai Santa Fe Diesel, 2008MY, 2009 registered) where a small wooden splinter that was kicked off the road by the car in front caused a 5 in long crack, the BMW Glass must have some kind of tech in it to be able to withstand stones! As usual, Germans overengineer their cars, but this was pretty interesting.

All in all, I am back to a near new F10, though it needs a polish soon, poor car got some cement droplets that day when the cement sprayed from the road. And I don't know how I can trust AB Glenmarie now, if their staff don't even know how to operate the vehicle and the services available. Seriously, we didn't know about the park button until I watched the video on youtube.

Anyone got any service experiences in AB Glenmarie? Cause I heard Quill Puchong is not as good as AB Glenmarie.

Oh and Thanks for the suggestions guys! Appreciate it! :D
