Hi Sifus..I might change my coolant sensor (DIY) so as to stabilise the idling rpm..would like to know any simple test could be carried out to confirm if the sensor is the real culprit? regardsAR

does the coolant sensor affect the idling rpm?..:)..hmm..interesting...anyone can enlighten?..:)

thanx

cheers!

(i think as long as u can verify the potential difference in the sensor, it should verify the condition... question is..what is the impedence..hmm..:)

coolant sensor effects the idling meh???
hmmmm....mebbe its the Idle control valve(ICV)?
could also be the timing belt....whn was the last time u changed tht?

most likely its the ICV or also check all the hoses to look for hairline cracks!

rgds,

AR,

which coolant sensor are you refering to?
1. coolant level sensor- in the float , no effect on idle
2. coolant temp sensor - near termostat housing- will effect idle
3. coolant/time temp sensor - next to coolant sensor- will effect starting/idle running characteristics

there is a way to check, you need a digital multimeter to test for both impedance and resistance

could you also post what type of engine management you have, motronic 1.0/1.1 or L-jet etc and what kind of symptoms your car is giving during the idle, this would help us to diagnose and troubleshoot better coz we can't read your mind from the keyboard.......

Bro Tyke & Teejay, Sir..

yeah, it could be that ICV or Coolant temp sensor or coolant time temp sensor as the case maybe.. but i just dun want to simply simply change all those... heh.. my engine management? hehe, how naive i am.. it could be monotronic.. 1.1? Very sorry sir,

Regards..

if you could post the idle symptoms, this would help

when its cold, when its hot, morning, midday, night, what happens, does the car jerk? does it die off when you change gears, does it bark at you??? etc,etc

Teejay,

Theres no specific hours.. sometimes its idling at 1000 rpm all days..
sometimes at 700 rpm.. wah, i cant feel the smoothness then... theres no jerking, no problems when changing gears..mebe what i shld do is..

1. Checks for hairline cracks at all rubber hoses..
2. Go for that digital multimeter at Pasar Road and then search for teejay, or
3. Go direct to teejay...

Thanks!

to answer your options,

1. good to look at for a start, hairline cranks, you probably need to do a compression test, and check your coolant regularly and see if you are losing coolant and also check your engine oil consumption, some cracks are in the lower block

2. good place to shop, but be aware of imitations, price range from rm30-rm90, get medium range will do, unless you are going into heavy electronic usages......then try to catch teejay

3. good choice, as you don't have to buy the multimeter, but the hardest part is to catch him........

but really,go get it checked asap.

and yes...the hardest part is to catch our elusive sifu teejay! :D
