Dear sifu,I was searching a UDM and finally i have found one which seems to be fairly good in condition from apprearance. The car is maintain by AB and is a 528 yr 2000 and has 150k KM on the clock. But when the mech plug in the computer, he told me he found an error on "Converter Lock up".I talked to the mech and also one of the local mech and both told me that is the prob of gear box. Potentially of overhaul is at high chance.Funny thing is that there is no light indicator on the dash board showing of the gear box and the run damn smoothly.Does any here experience this before what are the remedies beside overhaul the gear box? If overhaul, what is the expected damage? Please help ;(

do you feel the does the car driving is strangely..jerking ? highway runing the rpm is high ?

If the torque converter fails to lock up during highway cruising, you will be able to see the rpm fluctuating even when vehicle speed is stable by adjusting the pressure on the throttle. If the torque converter has locked, the car will actually behave like a manual, but you must not press or release the throttle too much from the cruising position, the ECU will think that you want to accelerate/decelerate sharper and will break the lock.

I was not able to test it on the highway but normal driving is excellent. Strange part is why the dashboard doesn't come out the warning light?!

Torque converter lock-up mechanism is not an essential function, therefore no warning light is needed (many people would not have understand what this error means anyway). In fact, these days, there are still some gearboxes out there that do not have any lock-up mechanism, cheap examples are: Perodua Kancil/Kelisa/Kenari, and all the Mitsubishi autoboxes on Saga/Wira/Satria/Putra/Perdana.

If your driving all smooth, let it be what mechanics told you.

This is what most mechanics would say to their customer " overhaul" every time detect tranmission faulty.

You shd ask your mechanics what is root cause ? If not, how to overhaul, change every part inside the tranny ?

Never occur them could be due to tranny oil need to change or wrong oil....etc

LCP.. my old wira had a torque convertor lock-up.. japs aren't idiots..

hmmm, strange, i didn't know that, sorry about the misinformation, i thought all mitsu autoboxes from the early 90s don't have that, especially the F3A21 and F4A22, and possibly also Perdana's F4A23... yours a 1.5 or 1.6/1.8?
