1) 10 K or more would be better
2) ask the workshop to source it for you ...save you the hasle or perhaps buying a lemon ..unless you're a pro
3) individual taste

Agreed with Iceman, it would be better for the workshop to source the half cut for you reason being, that if any parts are defective, the workshop will have to replace it for you. Otherwise, you will incur additional labour charges and countless trips to the chop shop.

To do the conversion, it would be advisable to get a half cut, preferably with the rear subframe as well as the rear differential could be different. With labour it would easily exceed 15k if not more.

Why dont you sell the M43 and get a M54? If it makes economic sense :)

Cheers

yeah, why go this way, all conversions are never perfect... from a M43 4 pot to a M54, you will need more than 15k to sort it out.

wiring, drive train, brakes, etc, etc is not the same, even the meters are different, then you will have a problem on the suspension, headlights...I will totally agree it's really stupid to go this way. sell it off or buy a another car.

Albundy and pussy

haha...dah agak some1 will say like that..easier say than done sifus..so berat to sell when you know the problem of the car..xsampai hati nak con some1 else into buying my ride..even berat if that some1 join the club after that...hati xcukup kering ma..

I guess depending what problem your current engine is having... and how much to rectify it to a comfortable level.

Q: why the suspension setup also need to change?if maintain the existing setup can or not?

you can't ...as the weight of the 6 potter is why heavier than the little 4 potter ponny you've got out there .....

Anyway, if you buy the whole front half cut, it shud come complete with the suspension...
And yes, the engine weights are different, so require matching springs and absorbers... Make sense to you???

1)o..like that...now i understand the need to change the suspension setup...so does the absorber mounting for the 4 pot an 6 pot the same?
2) how about the rear suspension setup?
3) if i still insist to transplant 6 pot into 4 pot bay, do if have to cut down the old engine bay and inplant the half cut or just transfer the engine+suspension setup+wiring into the old chasis? (i like to relate this Q to the 1st Q)

Might involve rear subframe as well, and etc etc etc.....like M54 to M62 conversion, wah banyak pening kepala and banyak makan wang!

Pssst...might as well get the M62 masuk terus, B44 power, hehehe.

1) absorber mounting same...
2) rear suspension shud be the same. although the rear differential ideally shud come together with the halfcut, cos the 'new' engine might need a different ratio.
3) no issue transplanting 6 pot engine into 4pot especially if both are from the same model ie E46 in your case. In most cases, plug and play... can be done in less than 1 week's time in the hands of a competent mechanic who knows wat to do. But if u have a half-past-6 mechanic, sorry lah... God bless u ;)
