Hi,I would like to find out if anyone has done this conversion before on their e34. I have experienced this gearbox before on a 97 E39 M52B25 and thought it was fabulous. Smooth and responsive. I have also driven a 93 525 M50B25 with a 5 speeder (non-tiptronic CBU car) and it was also quite good. Anyone out there done it before? Would appreciate if you could share the ease/difficulty of sourcing for the bits (gbox, long shaft, ECU, harness) and also the cost as well.I have talked to two mechanics, and they said it's basically quite hard to get the complete set of parts. One of them said that even if it was available, it might cost RM6-7k incl installation. btw my ride is currently a E34 M50B25TU.Cheers!

5 speed Jatco is more easy to get ..............

For ZF 5HP18, try to find kereta potong which bring in HK spec .......

But Japan spec always better then HK in term of usage and maintenance .....

Gud luck .....

Thanks for the tip. but for sure if i go cold calling at the chop shops i will kena chop...:) i will also consider jatco...according to their website they invented the world's first 5 speed electronically controlled AT...

Old already la wei, getting leg cramps after pressing TRD racing clutch for 4 years...anyway i dun hv hair on me chest so its ok...ahahaha...

bro...i was told you also need the propeller which is also difficult to find.....

anyway is it true with the 5 speed ZF you will get much better consumption compared to the 4 speed? with RM60 I can get on 170+km with town driving

yes, that seems to be the understanding. right now i'm getting like 7.5km / lit in town driving. when i go outstation, it's about 10km/lit.

will the 5 speed gbox improve this?...i think mine is worst close to 5.1km / lit town driving...

with my manual, i m getting 13.1L/Km......

13.1 liter for 1km?? wahlau..
or did you mean 13.1L for 100km.. L/100km..

my manual 318is gets about 10-11L/100km... actually should get better consumption if I sort out some of the nitty gritty stuffs...

Hi....Where can I go to get this checked? Coz mechs tell me high consumption is normal...One told me could be due to my 4 speed gbox....

er so anybody going to do an engine swap soon? maybe we can share the halfcut - u take the engine and everything else, I'll just take the gbox, long shaft, gbox ecu and wire harness...how about it?

mine running ZF auto 525 @ 20cents / KM

i got one complete manual ZF set ( maybe this set will give me lower than 20cents / KM )

Please bear in mind that the wiring harness for both the engine 'ECU' and auto gearbox 'ECU' are integrated. So unless you can get a competent mechanic to reengineer the wiring harness, you won't be able to just transplant another gearbox with different wiring system into your car...

Correct Fabian, but it applies to the e36 models only. the e34 is a different loom....
