Hi Sifus!I'm still facing high consumption on my 325. Have checked the AFM, 02 sensor, car has been serviced constantly and in tip top. However consumption for my ride is still higher than that of my buddy'd who drives a 328. Can the exhaust contribute to this problem? Is there any solution to this as everything seems to be in order. I'm getting around 330km to the full tank!Any ideas greatly appreciated! Thanks

kinglazy,

better check it out man...doesnt sound rite to me...unless ur driving like an f1 car all the time then no point in asking why lor.. :)

kinglazy,

have u checked for the basics...like tyre pressure...too low can affect mileage, tyre condition, weight in car,air con usage (if blower is on max n coldest temp could affect in the long run),method of driving (constant pressing n releasing the accelerator can really increase ur fuel consumption...other than these....these are what i can think of lar :)

To get a fairly accurate for fuel consumption do the following:-

1. Fill the fuel tank to the full.
2. Reset the odometer.
3. Drive around until tank is almost empty.
4. Fill tank to full again. Check at the Petrol kiosk how much litre is used to fill up the tank. (Get a receipt. It will also tell you your amount and litres)
5. Check at the odometer how much mileage did you clocked.
6. Divide kilometer with litres should give you the consumption.

Dude...

Just out of curiosity... how fast is your average driving speed? you kick-down kaki ah?

City driving, normally ten minutes drive to work and back. Not much traffic and hardly kick down.

Evrything is in order, tyre pressure and all, no fault codes when checked. What could be the cause of the high consumption?

I have checked the o2 sensor with two mechanics. No fault code. It has been like that since I bought the car 8 months ago!

Maybe your fuel gauge and related ancillaries are faulty.

My E46's fuel gauge float was faulty once, and the fuel gauge became inaccurate. Since replacing the float, things are back to normal.

Hi KingLazy,

If the engine (sensors ok, no leaks in hoses or fuel cap), transmission (changing to all gears ok), brakes (no siezing) and tire pressures all ok, it could be that the short 10 min drives are the reason for the high fuel consumption.

Notice that most cars, the first 10 mins give the worse consumption as the engine and transmission and the fluids are cold and thus the engine runs rich.....

To confirm that your car is okay, over the weeked, fill up full tank and drive for about 45 mins for both days. If it improves, then it is the short drives that cause the high consumption.

If not, then would need to check for leaks or software / sensor glitches.....

I got about 300km per full take but that was due to 2 of my O2 sensors being kaput.......

no harm trying decrab and cleaning the injector and flush the engine as well . maybe tht the car is old and alot of carbon in the engine and the valves ,
if tht cant help i really dont know how lar ...
good luck on tht ....

Thanks for the input bros, will try it.

Have done decarb and fuel injector cleaning. Have yet to flush the engine.
