Appreciate pointers and guidance especially from owners of such machines.

Justin,

A wide subject indeed......As I am a coffee freak myself, there are sooooo many choices out there. Nespressos are Good.......I live with it everyday..........2-3 ABF cups a day. These pods are pricey in a way but offers many varieties in terms of flavor. The mentioned Brands are good........u should really scout around but for home, I recommend Beans. Lavazza and Illy do have good flavors. As for Machines, try Krups, if the pocket is deep enough, go for Bodum.......very sexy machine indeed.

Happy Coffeeing........

:rolleyes:real coffee talk huh.....the machine is real exepnsive, range few k to 100 over k. depends what u need then only find the necessary one. i think can find it easily from those kitchen dealer who supply utilities to cafe.

James........true, some Coffee Machines can go as high as the 100k and above, example Cimbali/Italy, Egro/Swiss, Franke/Germany.........but they are meant for Commercial usage. For household, there are ranges between RM700 to RM4000 for the Bodums, Jura, etc. Robinsons at Gardens/Mid-Valley have some racun Coffee stuff........

it also depends on the aftersales service, make sure they have the spare parts when it breaks down.. but above 4k ones lasts about 3 years before they start problems..

my old office used to have 2 machines, but can't remember the names.. each day at least 100 cups..

There's a shop at The Curve directly above Starbucks that you might want to check out.

I'm a coffee syphon kind of guy. What I have are:

1) A Hario Nouveau
2) A Bodum Santos
3) 2 Hario Technicas

Check out www.coffeegeek.com or www.coffeesnobs.com.au. The two sites have tons of reviews and info for coffee-crazed people like us.

Salut

totally agree with pussy!

find those companies that sells machines with at leat 5-6 years track record, or stick with the known brands

the good ones would have a separate coffee beans grinder as less parts to breakdown
look for the ones that has an auto cleaning facility each time you start it up, this keeps the internals clean at all times

last but not least, the quality of the coffee is not so much from the machine, but from the beans itself, altough the temperature of the machine, speed of the water flow, pressure of the strainer, water quality does play a role in the quality of the coffee being dispense, domestic units still can't come up to the level of the commercial units

If anyone tries to sell you a Barbera brand, stay away from them, this advise is coming from a professional from the F&B industry

I thought u need to MARRY one.. :p Kao tim! :D :D

Marry one...hmmm...coffee machines are a bit limited in what they can do. But the machines can blow...steam, I mean, so there's something unique there.

stanley,i miss lavazza beans a lot...those day my friend got a cafe everyday must visit him to have a glass of latte...

Actually sg got lots of choice. Just afraid customs will tax if I bring it back kl.

Any good recommendation for a machine at rm1.8k budget?

why not buy from sg then? get your sg frens to help you bring over.

i did... i bought a nespresso machine (citiZ) for my office so that i can enjoy a fresh cup any time i want, rain or shine, 2 steps from my table (lazy people have lazy measures). got from robinsons, free samples given.

i also got the aerocino, for some press button ease foam for my latte/cappucino... or for making chococino (nice!).

i am like 30 steps and 3 doors away from the pantry sink, so the nespresso is really convenience as it is a drop, close, press and voila! wake up and smell the coffee... it needs very little cleaning (clear out the capsule tray and ocasional wipe with wet wipes will do).

what happens when you run out of capsules? order them online. they delivery right to your door.

you need to drink 500 cups before you descale the machine!

those are the pros... cons?

there are definitely much better coffee other than nespresso. (i love illy too!)

nespesso capsules are not cheap!

the capsules are made of aluminium and single use. so, its not environmentally frenly using up the global aluminium supplies like that.

up to you to weigh the pros and cons.

i am, personally, happy with mine. i make one now and then, so some of the cons are bearable.

well, well, long time no hear!
and i thought ah lian is a tea -lady.......hahahaha

p.s. can you get that citroen fren of yours to contact me? there's gonna be a big citreon gathering end of july, my car is almost there......
here is the pix

better get it in sg then, competition is high and choices are aplenty, you could get a pretty good deal there, get your sg frens to bring it in when they drive, you're quite there near anyways

My aunt has a very nice coffee machine (2 buttons only) that can make all sort of coffee. My dad and I always go there to curi free coffee if we're in TTDI. An despite all the pricey units around KL, she mentioned that she "smuggled" that unit in from Singapore for less than 2k... also i think the coffees are quite easily attainable... Planning to look it up the next time I'm in Singapore.. Will try to take pic and post on forum as soon as possible... Looks like some machine from a spaceship...

Generally, Electrical goods are cheaper in Sg. Furthermore now you have the Big Singapore Sale..I m sure you will get a good price.

u got budget, next u will want to research on types of machines. generally, they have auto/semi-auto and manual. if you are a coffee junkie, i'm sure the latter brings more excitement to every cup of coffee you brew. but with manual machines, u have to know your coffee grind setting, amount of coffee (14grams), the tamper pressure (about 12kg of equivalent force), the extraction rate (22-26 secs for 1 cup espresso). and get those high pressure boilers like >10bars with a pump, because this will properly extract the coffee and will give you the golden crema on top of you espresso. very nice.

i personally give high rating to italian and swiss espresso machines namely jura, gaggia etc. but i would highly recommend italian rancilio silvia. rancilio uses brass boiler which in return gives you uniform temperature during extraction, and brass boilers are used in those starbucks, coffee beans. stainless steel ones okla, but if you have that kinda budget rm2k, try google consumer research on rancilio silvia. i cant remember the price now, but no more than rm3k kot. and please dont neglect a good grinder too! get a rancilio rocky with that. it will bring lotsa good smiles on you face and its a cool thing to put on your kitchen top too! grinder is very, very important. never use the blender tau because this will give heat to your beans and ruin everything. alternatively, just kindly ask a barista to grind for you (leave tips!).

i like nespresso too. because u can skip all technical skills handling a manual machine and still get consistent espresso with nice crema bro. no need grinder, tamper.
