clunk sound over rough patch or potholes

hi guys,i've been having a "clunk" sound coming from the driver side everytime the car goes over a pothole or rough road patch.not only that but when braking, there was some play(movement) felt in the front end.took it to the shop today and after some debug work, the culprit was narrowed down to the front control arm.more specifically, the bushing and the ball joint.they replaced only the bushing and the ball joint.i was told that not all models come with separate lower and upper arms, where the individual member can be swapped out.x3 and x5's have it as separates.after the switch, the noise and the play when braking have been fixed.
