What's the logic behind this "always ON" feature, may I ask?

Because it is a BMW.

Actually it is quite frustrating to just turn on the ignition to light up a ciggie while you
waiting for a friend.

Please don't forget this is a ciggie lighter and not a hand phone charger.

yea..its always on..apparently the SA also didnt know bout this..when i complaint last time, they had to try on every f30 in the showroom+workshop and yea all car are same..hurm..as SA they should know this..what a shame if..knowledge level kinda dissapointing..

Agree with you...in fact during my few encounters with SA when purchasing my car, I actually taught her a few things haha.

Aiyah, unker... that's what those RM1.00 lighters are for.

Have you ever try to get the lighter from your pant pocket with the seat belt ON?

Tested by leaving phone charger on after shutting down the engine for 40 minutes and it was still on..so much for the auto shut off function after half hour...

no bro..it wont shut off..its always on..i give one best experiment to do yea..provided u park ur car at a very safe place..u roll down ur window..then lock the car..then go enjoy life..or say leave ur car parked overnite..so the next morning,or when u done enjoy life..to be safe give it like 4-5 hours, without ur key with u..go to ur car..enter from the window..then try the ciggie lighter..

Your car got problem!!

No lar. My E46 radio is lidat. Can anyone else confirm this? Just remove key from ignition and press the "ON" button on the radio HU. The radio will turn on without the key.

A little off topic but just realized if you on your wipers n leave it on n shut the engine off,the wiper continues on..waited few minutes n still wiping away...anyone noticed this too?

I have no issues with my radio. No interference on any channel except when in a base ment car park. Just make sure u save the correct frequency for the region/station. I can turn on just the radio without the ignition set to "On". iDrive cannot be started though without the ignition in the "On" position. I think this is stated in the manual.

Back to the topic, it's a cigarette lighter and will be powered. Seen this in most cars. It will turn on when the lighter is depressed, otherwise it is switched off.... Hope I get my meaning.

Err, nope...cause I don't smoke. But why?...you frequently grabbed the wrong "device" whenever you had to fiddle around in your front pocket ar? Hahaha

so it is confirmed indeed, the cigarette lighter is perpetually ON even if you shut off and retire for the night. I tried plugging in a handheld dust buster (vacumm cleaner),rolled the windows down, left it for a couple of hours. When I returned, I switched on the dust buster to vacumm inside my trunk.

my e30 old school cigarette lighter is on 24/7... even when i was doing my dashboard swap, i coincidentally grounded the wire, blew a fuse..

my verilapan also is on 24/7...

i believe it was design as a tool for the cigarette plug in for the winter time battery charge, even bmw has optional accessories for solar panel charger which plugs in to your cigarette lighter. Saw it on Calvin's Tan awesome AC car...

I tried this twice and confirmed that the phone charger went off after around 30 minutes (means no power to it).

Its confirmed it wont be perpetual on.... it would turn off after quite sometime.... i used it with my GPS... so after like 10~20mins the GPS will shut off because the GPS will shut off if dont detect incoming power... lol
