Yesterday morning, I didn't have any appointments. So I called Maxu to go chop shop hunting as he needed some stuff for the E38. BTW this is his first and good experience. By 10am we were already at the chop shop but the bosses were still not in yet. Anyway took Maxu for a little tour around and after that we focused on a near excellent E38 unit which came in very recently. Maxu was wanting to refurbish his tired looking interior. The car was still stacked up (the tail end on top of the front end) Got the workers to removed all the items and whola, the seats were in perfect condition. Hardly any wear & tear. They look fresh and the beautiful cream leather were still very soft. The price quoted to us (In my opinion, it's less than half or even one third of the price of what people pays for a similar set of E34 seats) It took very little effort to convience him to hand over his Card. Mind you they were the full set of front and rears electric memory seats. Front seats were those famous E38 comfort seats with so many adjustments to suite even the most unique human being. Also included in the package was the complete centre console which has a sliding arm rest, soft touch ash tray box, gear shift indicator plate and near perfect wood trimmings. Rear bench seat also comes with a sliding cup holder. By this time, BrianJ whose office was near by had arrived. Next we focused our attention on the door cards which had the complete rear window and quarter glass blinds. The 4 door cards speakers box came with. chrome rings. Then it was the rear speaker shelf which has the electric operated rear blinds. Again the pricing offered was hard to believe. Obviously, the card was swiped again. BrianJ got himself some very nice stuffs for his E34 too. The chopped car was so perfect that I couldn't resist but bought almost the complete front undercarriage (upper, lower thrust arms, steering centre rod & tie rod ends) except the EDC absorbers just for keeps and spares. I also got my 2001 manufactured very much sort after 18" Originals BMW Style 32 rims (with tyres) too. Getting all these goodies cost us less than RM5K!!! in total. If anyone thinks maintaining an E38 is expensive, you can have second thought now. I believe, the trick is to know a good honest mechanic and learn to recognise good used parts plus where to get them will save a lot of RM. Of course luck plays a part too. After that we had a very enjoyable lunch. BTW yesterday was Maxu birthday. It's probably a birthday he will remember for a long time. Moral of the story, it's good to join TT's to get to know and learn from each other and be active in the forum.
