Check Engine Indicator

hye, my name is ted and i'm new here. i just bought e46 yr 2001 1.9 engine, i noticed that the engine indicator does not light up at all even when i turn the key to "ON" position and after the engine started. Is this normal? i've been told by the car dealer that the check engine indicator only will light up when something is wrong or sense fault code. Can anyone advise me, tq.

hassnur, is ur yr same 2001 1.9 engine? since when u notice tat and did u send to any workshop for checking?
