dear forumeers, finally got my very own E30 M40 last week. Noticed the electrical wiring in the engine compartment and inside the glove box are actually in a mess. I need someone that knows which wires meant for what and tidy up or even change the wiring. Any suggestions or great ideas folks? :)

don't need to change the wirings, if you do, you wil need a whole halfcar

just some cable ties, black tape, cloth black tape wildo

some black wilde stray cat that likes to 'stroke'.......:p also likes wirings and usually makes havoc too.....sounds familiar ehh?:D

hi guys,
yeap i do agree wit Teejay, just DIY...u will save alot of $$$...the black tape just cost u a few penny....

as for the E46,changing the electrical wiring will cost around rm3k++...tis price was quote by the BMW service center near my place....How u guys think about it?

Anyway good luck wit ur E30 ae....:)

better send ur car to someone specialise in it, wireman. jangan pandai pandai. silap silap tengah jalan, enjin mati.

A few options;

1) Order a new wiring set. Might cost u though .. E34 M5 wiring is circa 6 K !
2) Get from a half-cut - but dun expect 'good-as-new'
3) Tape it nicely (as per TeeJay's advise ....)

Note - loose and open wires can cause spark .. u know what will happen laaa kan ...

Forget about the 'cat' - we'll take care of him ... :D

Jangan marah ye...

why buy the car when you know that the wiring is a mess..???

Thanks folks! the mess was in the glove box and other areas that are tucked away. When i finally open up the place to clean up myself...alamak! Like that lor....

Forget about wiring harness then, maybe just to find out what this wire does and where does it goes etc,..coz there are some loose wire tangling around.

Lately notice the car's idling a bit funny la...up and down slowly...aiseh! Did clean up the ICV, maybe next kena buat AFM....:(

The more i "play" with my car, the more "problems" i notice....instrument panel lights some are out, SI board battery need to change....walao!! *sniff*...

I pity you....
btw,how many guys have pmed you to help you.

well....I can only suggest you learn best from international forum then here.
me , myself and I learn the hard way la...

You need to address those loose wires soonest, if they are end caps with plastics, it could be factory that is menat to go somewhere or for upgrades

But if the loose wires are open splice, you better cover them up or risk shorting with some other wires or grounding:eek:

It takes alot of understandings and knowledge of the colour codes , its not that simple, but not too hard to understand too:confused:

The more you play, the more you learn about your car and its defects, hence a bettter understanding and better appreciation of it;)

I guess the previous owner gave up easily or just couldn't care less for the car:mad:

It is up to you to take up the challenge, you would have gained a self fullfilment that the previous owner would never have......:D

as i always advise some people.....
patience my young padawan, you have much to learn.....:)

I am slowly accepting the facts la, being reading a lot of DIY forum out there, next project will do the AFM service (provided by Jarance) and Instrument panel light bulbs and SI board battery replacement. Walao....!

Appreciate all your feedback and advice!

did somebody mentioned my name???

DIY is the way to go and save money in the long run.. In the process, you get to know more about the car and will tend to appreciate it better..

or - get someone to do it for u ..... pay laaa, of course ...

Unker - can do mine or not ? :D

sorry off topic..

Sorry.. nowadays vely busy lah but don't mind giving a pointer here and there if know the exact problem.

As mentioned by TJ, auto wireman is very hard to find. Howver, E30 wiring not so complicate coz not much electronic and sensors as compare to E36 and E46.

Most of the time, the problem is due to bad ground due to body rust.
