Hi sifus..a newbie question here.. just noticing my e90 n46 has oil leaking when I checked engine bay this morning at connection between CCV return hose and oil pan tube (see figure). Is that common this part to leak for this engine. So far oil level is still at max after 5000km..However lots of oil stain on transmission cooler hoses as I am suspecting this oil leak has been dripping on the transmission hoses..btw..current mileage is 67700km...
Thanks.

Just press on both side of the clip and pull it off. clean the oil stain and insert it back.

when it is inserted properly, you will heard a click sound.

check for oil stain after driving for a few days. if oil leak persist, change all the hoses.

will do that. Many thanks.

aiyoh....the drain tube on my m54 very much simpler...just a cheap n simple common rubber hose which connects the CCV to
the dip stick....

ini BMW betol betol Banyak Makan Wang

Moots,
By cheap and simple rubber hose, can yours be as simple as having 2 hose clips at the end ? I notice these hoses have proprietory push fit designs at each end, rendering self-improvisation impossible. Betol Banyak Makan Wang.

howdy bro tckhor,
mine is simpler.no clips required.it's push fit.like a garden hose to a water pipe.even that sometimes require a hose clip due
to the water pressure.for the ccv the hose functions to drain collected oil vapor remnants back to the oil pan.ZERO pressure.
Gravity assisted.

you can actually modify the e90n46 to have a cheaper and simpler fix rather to a hi tech drain hose.
have the moolah...buy and fix original....if not,like me,improvise lor.....BMW

Didnt know that it is zero pressure. I am a little afraid to touch that hoses as they are known to be brittle over time..

yes they tend to break after a few year in service.

mine was broken when I removed it to change the crankshaft sensor.

Yes, thats the one i am afraid of.the weakest part is where we expect it to be flexible...currently gonna leave it alone as this is the only car i comutes to work.

Hehe.. my e90 n46 no such thing.. The vent hose connects to the intake manifold.. Like Japs..

So my oil pan missing the return inlet, which I know someone here has converted it with e46 n46 dipstick. Proly the only e90 320i with a dipstick..

I have been thinking to retrofit a manual dipstick..didnt trust that digital oil gauge..
Is that posible to delete ccv n bypass it using hoses of your car version? I am guessing the manifold is identical, only no ccv and different lenght hoses..and seal the oil pan tube with any rubber stopper..

The Japs feed the crank case breather hose back into the intake. Result being engine oil fume end up collecting in the intake, it doesn't help combustion. That's why established Euro marque uses CCV and Japs performance car retrofit oil catch tank.

Your CCV is not expensive.. The n46 dipstick fitment comes with a CCV hose connector. If you delete CCV, you need to plug that. Moreover my valve cover has a crank case pressure regulating diaphragm, which your n46 doesn't have. The diaphragm identical to the one used in your CCV. I doubt you can use my setup..

My diaphragm koyak once, cause massive leaking of oil fume, I repaired with bicycle tube.. :D

Thanks AB, that explained why there is spring n valve in the ccv. While in japs cars, the mechanism is much simpler but will consume engine oil, mybe. Before this i added oil catch tank to my k20a engine, as i was suspecting it burning oil. But, it hardly catched any oil.
[emoji1] [emoji1] no wonder you are sifu..always find a cheaper way to fix bmw..

Mybe i can just wait the leak to get a little bit more severe before replacing all ccv related parts.
