Just found out this morning...Opened boot to remove some stuff...as per usual, one would push the boot lid to its maximum upright secured position and assuming it would stay that way till i shut the boot manually...To my horror, as soon as I popped my head into the boot to reach in to grab my stuff, the boot was slowly declining from its upright position and then about to shut slam, WITH MY HEAD IN THE BOOT! :beaten: Thank goodness for my spider sense which was tingling like mad, i swiftly retracted my head from the boot and was safely tucked away, to witness the boot slam with a loud thud...almost would have decapitated me.... :D Now if it wasn't for my hyper arachnid senses, I wouldn't be here to describe my boot problem...So guys, do you think it is the hydraulic bar failure or would it be the return of my arch enemy Magneto, utilising his magnetic powers to decapitate me!! Well, it could have been worse, a pumpkin bomb might have detonated when i kick start the engine.... Anyways...any help??!!Thanks...

Dont know which model you drive but it is the gas strut. They do give way after time. Most of the time they leak. Cannot service. Doesnt cost much to change. For it to drop like that it means that both sides are gone and when one of them failed, you did not notice it. So looks like you are gonna have to change. Can find used units or buy new.

On another note are you sure your car isnt possessed and it was trying to eat you up......

So mr parker, what model do you drive?

for an e30, it is the spring that is loosing its tension. for e36 model onward, there is the hydraulic absorber which is install on the left on front side of the boot. To check the condition, remove the absorber from the boot. Try to push the rod in. If it stay down and did not "push" the rod out, then you need to replaced it..

btw, when the last time you feed your car. it could also be trying to tell you it is hungry.. :D

Please update ur profile so that we know what model u are driving before giving u the solution.
