This is what I believed is the best thing to do, and I have been doing it for years. No coolant in my both my cars except plain filtered water and water wetter. Cooland and appropriately called Anti-Freeze in western countries, reduced the the ability of water to transfer heat. A lot of people confused with boiling temperature of water with the thermal conductivity of water, what is needed is to increase the thermal conductivity of water, not increasing the boiling temperature.

Cheers.

Make sense, Albundy. What you used for the water wetter or any recomendation? No problem with me using plain filtered water to top up all my cars in the past 10 years of ownership. For sure no need anti-freeze. Jap cars even need 50% water mixture, anti-rust more needed.

cheers.

I used Redline and Arox...most of the time. Reason using Arox is because its cheap, RM19 a bottle versus Rm48 for Redline and it seems to be able to do the job.

It lubricates the water pump seal and prevent rust formation. :)

i used to use water, but it acts as a agent for rusts... if you leave it long inside, it will promote rusts.. then your water jacks will rusts around the edges and so will your headgasket pores will be smaller..

Al, so what would you recommend? I need to change my radiator coolant soon.

Distilled water/filtered + coolant?

I just purchased BMW Original Coolant @ AB Pg RM28.64.

Trying it @ next oil change.

I'm actually on BMW Original Coolant for the last 11000km or so, temperature has been rock steady, never had to top up yet. Possibly will be changing to Redline Water Wetter on the next coolant change.

AlBundy, is the Arox called "Rust Protector & Wetting Agent"... this is the only "official" website that I could find... http://www.aroxlubricants.com/products2.html
At RM19 a pop, it seems like a good deal, only thing is the usage is classified under "industrial" applications.

Yup, thats what I am using. Arox is a UK brand and its bottled here.

NO issue with rust on my engine, because I normally drained out the water at least once a year.

Thats why have to add rust protecting agent. Anyway you should be the last person to worry about rust, because every 6 months you will dismantle your engine.:thefinger:

If your regular mech uses tap water mixed with your coolant (any coolant that you bring or the workshop's selection), if they are not fitted with a filter, how many liters of distilled water do you need? 328, 325, 320 or 318 is the same right?

IIRC you'll need 4-4.5 litres in total, so in a 50/50 mix you'll need around 2 litres of each.

Coolant will reduce the tendency for rust and scale to form in the cooling system better yet use demineralised water instead of tap water 50/50 ratio should be quite ok. Scales formed in the cooling system will reduce heat transfer to the cooling water hence less efficient cooling.

i have been using distille water and Water Wetter for 1 year. then switched to distilled water and Lubeguard for 2 years plus.

when i opened my head, it was really clean inside and coolant was clear.

right or wrong, can't be for sure.. the coolant should not loose it's colour...

why they colour it, i dun know, but it must be a reason..

the nasa colour dye is good, can spot leaks in joint's or when there's a spot of water below the car the next day, either ac water or coolant..

i also heard the redline water wetter is good to lower the tempreature in the rad, but not sure of it's properties... but RM48.00 a bottle.. ouch !!

Been using the BMW coolant all along and tap water, no problems so far. And my coolant did not loose its green colour. Unless yours was "adulterated" with something else.
