Hi, I have decided to carry out a survey of my own on the BMW Service + Repair Inclusive Package which currently comes free with your new BMW. Details of the package can be found at http://www.autobavaria.com/com/en/index_narrowband.html?content=http://www.autobavaria.com/com/en/general/services/bmw_serviceinclusive.html It is reproduced here for your convenience:- Now standard on every new BMWBMW Service + Repair Inclusive. Professional service, maintenance, and repair for 3 years or 60,000km* whichever comes first. This exclusive service programme gives you the freedom to enjoy your BMW on any road, at any time. So you can concentrate on the driving pleasure without having to worry about the service and maintenance. The BMW Service + Repair Inclusive is complimentary with any new BMW you acquire and is designed so that you can forget about the cost of servicing, maintenance or wear-and-tear of your BMW for the next 3 years or 60,000km* which ever comes first. It is an assurance that your BMW will always be serviced with precision and that only Original BMW Parts will be used. Of course, the trademark BMW reliability, safety and quality go without saying. Benefits of BMW Service + Repair Inclusive at a glance: •Offer advice to help build the right car for you.•Order the car.•Arrange delivery to you. The service includes: •Change of engine oil (not including top-ups).•Service / replacement of air filters, microfilters, spark plugs, brake fluid.•Brake pads, front and rear.•Brake disc, front and rear.•Clutch (worn only)•Windscreen wiper blades as part of routine maintenance.•Vehicle check and standard services as set out in BMW service booklet in owners documentation (chapter : Maintenance summary, Vehicle check)•
  • Repairs beyond warranty covered during programme period.
•Order the car.•Arrange delivery to you. Care to share your experience with the package. I believe the recommended service interval is now 25000km. I also believe that the manual states that your car should be serviced at least every year nothwithstanding the mileage. Recently a friend of mine who owns a one year old 320i under the said package approached a SC for her first service. Her car had only done 12000km. The SA checked her car and told her nothing was wrong and that if she wanted the free service, she should come back when the service light was red. If she still insisted on servicing her car, then she would have to pay for the service. The SA told her that this was a new policy. Unhappy with the answer she wrote to the SC HQ. Later she received a call inviting her for the free service from the SC. I have decided to conduct a survey amongst all the forumers( official member or not) to gather your experiences before I write officially (in my personal capacity and as a potential E90 buyer) to enquire as the the AB & BMWs stand on this issue of service intervals and the service+repair package currently being offered as standard together with purchases of all new BMWs. So pls share your experiences. I would need amongst others the following particulars:- Model:Date Of Purchase:Date(s) of service & Mileage(KM):Whether covered under the 3yrs/60000km package:Other remarks/experience: I also welcome suggestions on how best I can conduct this survey. Your input would be most appreciated. Please help me so I can help you. Cheers. Selamat Hari Raya.

It sound more like helping you because you are going to collect all the data here than wright to BMW as a potential buyer of E90.

Ha! Ha!.......my purchase may be in 5 yrs time so am I really going to benefit now?

Regardless, I dont understand why the resistence and negativity, wouldnt such a survey ultimately benefit ALL new BMW owners and of course subsequent second hand owners like myself and others.

From my own personal E36 experience I can relate to the stress of buying a car not properly maintained.

Of course poor maintainance may not affect a car in the fisrt few years but as the car grows older, it will rear its ugly head.

I am not forcing anyone to participate in my survey, the choice is yours. If you feel that this survey will make a difference pls take the time to help me help you.

Contrary to the insuniation above, I have no ulterior motive. You have read my postings before,my participation here is purely out of passion. To suggest otherwise not only insults me but also ALL other forumers that want to make a difference.

anxious,

I might not own any new BMW but as far as I am aware, the 25,000km service interval is very scary. 60K means 2 free service only as it didnt even mentioned 12month per service eventhough it is in the manual.

If I to own a new E90 or E60 from AB or Sapura, I will personally have my car serviced at a specialist centre every 5000K (Engine Oil, Filter) on my own as its only cost us about RM300max. Only when it reaches 25K then I will send it to AB for brake or wiper and other wear and tear parts to be replaced.

Come on guys... we have spend RM250-300K for the car why save a few hundreds to keep is maintained?? Why must we follow the service interval?

As any consumer, we to be prepared to understand the sales strategies and plan to maintain our purchase . Its is just like when we purchase an airticket, we just put our trust to the airline to bring us to the destination safely. They(airline) never promise to you that their plane wont crash.

25k km service interval does not make sense, especially for a new car with a new engine.

On my own experience, I can share this. I sent my new E92 to AB Segambut for its first service after 5,700 kms and 4 months. I acknowledged it was a bit early but the OBC showed I had about 1,700 kms to go and I told the SA I had a hectic schedule and so happens, I was free at that time. They didn't raise any issue and carried out the service. When I collected the car the same day, I noticed the OBC had been reset to 22,000 kms i.e. about 16,000 kms to go before my next service. I thought this was a bit odd and even posted this earlier to check if other E90 forumers had the same experience. E46F also sent his new car to AB Segambut for early service, in his case there was a small problem to resolve anyways, and got away with it. Hence, I felt that what Anxious' friend encountered was due to that SC and SA being a prick and MAY not be the case for other SCs or SAs. Anxious, is the miscreant AB Penang?

Yes it is AB Penang. But my senior partner had no such problems with her 5 series serviced there. Of course she didnt have the benefit of the 3yr/60000km package so she had to pay for the service herself. I must add that she has no complaint as to the service she got from AB Pg. They even topped her oil for free. Neither do I hv anything personal against AB Pg.

I think that this problem that my friend encountered has a lot to do with the 3yr/60000km "free" service package. That's why I've decided to do this survey.

Thank you Juan for your feedback. Keep it coming. Hopefully by the end of this month I will have enough feedback from here and the other forums where I've posted this survey to write to BMW Malaysia and AB on this issue.

Thanks again.

No prob, Anxious. Anything for a good cause. We're in the same community after all and should look out for one another. Otherwise, what's the real purpose of being here.

We trust you will keep any references to our experience strictly anonymous ya.

Will do. Juan. Thanks again.

Greetings,
I'm still pursuing this matter with BMW Malaysia and BMW Germany. I just want a definite answer from them regarding the engine oil service interval, to follow the OBC or at a fixed intervals. I got a call from BMW voice 2 days ago and this guy said that the computer in the car is monitoring everything, including the quality of the oil too. So, I shall just follow exactly on OBC indications. When I ask him further can the oil last more than 30,000 km, which thats what the OBC of my car indicates, he can't give me an answer.

I have already sent 3 emails to them, BMW Malaysia and c.c. Germany. I keep you people inform when they reply. Take care and enjoy.

anxious,

maybe some members here are from AB?... that's why being defensive? heee... maybe.

I strongly recommend you guys to get in touch with:

Mr. Stephan Rausch
Director of After Sales
Stephan.Rausch@bmw.de

He is with BMW Malaysia and I believe he will be the right person for you to get an answer to all your questions.

Thanks everyone, would appreciate if you all can keep us updated. After all, that's what this forum is all about ain't it. In fact, you may allude that this is being discussed at this forum and other members are awaiting a response or you may choose to appear to be acting unilaterally so that you get an undoctored response. I suggest the latter for the time being for the reason I advanced. Sometimes it's best to keep our cards close to our chest until the right moment or opportunity present itself.

Yes, this should be right approach. Fully agreeable

Greetings,
I just received the reply from BMW Malaysia regarding the engine oil change interval. Below is part of the email.

... your vehicle’s engine is equipped with an oil condition sensor for which the engine oil level, oil viscosity, level of contaminants, etc are constantly monitored. Although the engine oil service interval setpoint was 25,000km, the interval might increase or decrease depending on varying operating conditions as well as level of wear on the engine oil. The user will be prompted by on board computer to replace the engine oil when necessary. Such system is called the “Condition Based System” or “CBS” in short. Rest assured this technology had been vigorously tested prior to its release to the market and your vehicle’s engine is definitely well protected.

I think this is self explanatory. Enjoy...
