My expectations were that the bike will be a nimbler Goldwing, providing as good comfort in a lighter better handling package. BUT, from the pictures it looks like a heavier GT bike.
Honda need not worry about mass migration of its Wing fans.
BMW certainly tried hard to ensure the CofG is low, evident from how far forward the cylinder banks are inclined. And its gonna be heavy, probably tipping the scales at more than 270kg. Which means that to attain luxury status, some form of reverse gear assist should be included to ensure dignity for the rider in the parking lot.
The bike is also designed to look 'good' without panniers, giving the impression that its sole purpose is not just long distance touring.
At RM160k thereabout the bike is not cheap, but then, given the technological titbits thrown in, it is not terribly expensive. Worthy of a flagship title for the BMW bike range, I forsee this bike to be a good seller, with probably 50 being sold in the next year or so. Which means that there is no way i could get my hands on a test unit anytime soon.....right fastly......
How many of these sales are cannibalized from prospective customers aiming for other bikes in the BeeEm range, and how many are new BeeEm owners remains to be seen.
But i am pretty sure that those who put their money down will be very happy people.
