BMW E32 730i Vibration after install new wheel

Hey, my E32 used to have the same problem, but I've solved it already after twice sending it to the workshop. Mine was almost similar to your case - mine vibrated badly occasionally whenever I was crusing around close to 100 km/h. Thought the wheels were off balance, but if I am not mistaken, the drive shaft was the cause. Sometimes I could feel the car vibrate whenever I pressed the accelerator when my car's travelling around 80-110km/h.

Mine used to have a knocking sound in the rear tyres too after my dad helped me to change the original 15 inch rims for a used E60 rim in early April 2008. Apparently the fault was traced to a fault suspension bush. It's pretty pricey to deal with too, but once settled, rest assured that your ride will be as good as new!

Here's a general guide to diagnosing vibrations:

1) If it can be felt through the steering wheel, it has to do with front end suspension components or frnt wheels are not properly balanced

2) If you feel it through the seat, it is drive train and/or rear end suspension components or rear wheels are not properly balanced

i recently had mild vibration from 80-100kmph while accelerating, feel through the floor/seat, mechanic checked and found out it was the steering bush, after changed left very very mild vibration which sometimes occur n sometimes not from 80-100kmph, suspect its the wrong tyre size...got 215/65/15 on it :(

yo eggie, which e60 wheels u use? i tried the 16 inch 7 spoke one but had some vibrations even though it was et20 and therefore had to change back to my original 15 inch, the tyres were worn out in that rim, dunno whether its the cause of the problem...didn't want to put on a new set of 16 inch tyres for that rims cause worry it might still vibrate, btw the tyre shop selling me RM800 for all four wheels.

Hey Rizal, here's a pic of the wheels on my E32. Haha. Not in perfect condition as it's used but it does look better than the stock OEM 15 inchers it came with! Mine's 16 inch as well & looks pretty decent on my car. But my dream rims for the E32 would surely be the ones used on the E38 750iL in 'The World Is Not Enough'.

hey mate, thats exactly the same wheels i tested...but had some vibration from 80-100kmph...maybe cause of the bald tyres....do u have any problems with it? if not then I might get those wheels and put on new tyres on them and try them out...the wheels are selling at RM800 at a local tyre shop

Cool, same wheels huh? Hmm, vibration eh? I've also had the same prob last year, but after a few visits to the workshop, the problem is fixed now. As the other forumers have probably mentioned, the problem could have been caused by lotsa factors, i.e: faulty suspension bushes, uneven tyre alignments and sometimes the problem could even be caused by a broken drive shaft.

Anyways, the wheels have been on the E32 for almost a year now, and I've not changed the tyres at all. As the vibration problem has been solved, that would surely rule out tyre thread or bald tyres as the fault huh? Have you tried changing the suspension bushing? Your mechanic would probably need to jack the car up on all fours to diagnose the problem.

i had no problems on my 15inch...put that 16inch got mild vibration from 80-100 kmph...so changed back to my 15 inch...therefore problem is either the tyre or the wheels...and since you have been using it 1 yr without problem, therefore i suspect problem will go off if I buy a new set of tyres for the wheels
