BMW 330e home charging issue

Hello.

Collected my car over the weekend and tried charging the car by via home 3 pin socket. It started to charge but after about 5 minutes, the Charging indicator light on the adapter is off and the car is not charging.

Did anyone encounter such a problem with home charging and how did you resolve this issue?

It could happen if you use an extension cable. The best way is to isolate your power point to the relevant fuse and ensure no other electrical items are used during the charging process for your safety.Also use the "reduced" or "Low" charging settings if you're able to set the settings either in your idrive or the supplied charger (there may be different supplied chargers).

I plugged the unit in directly to the wall, not via an extension and settings is at "Low" in idrive. Anyway, I am getting TNB to come and check my power voltage this weekend.

Great, could you update this thread once the TNB guys have checked out your situation? Would be great for other owners reference in the future..

TNB came over and checked the following:

1) Power from their source coming into the house (from the meter). Checked all 3 phases and confirmed power coming in is 240V.
2) Checked the wall power plug where I used to charge the car. Confirmed the power output is 240V.

After all these checks and discussing with TNB on the power usage and amp requirements of the adapter for the car, they confirmed that the power from the wall plug should be sufficient based on the charging requirements for the car. So, I plugged the 3 pin charger in and started to charge the car. It worked this time and the adapter did not cut off the power.

The TNB guys were very helpful in checks and explanation and kudos to them for taking the time to come over to my house and conduct the check.

The dealer was not very helpful and jump to conclusions that if it doesn't charge, there is something wrong with the power in your house. In conclusion, I believed my problem is with the 3 pin charger that was supplied with my car. I am on my 3rd charger after being replaced twice.

Guess it was a case of faulty charger, n the dealer brushed u off. Glad u got it sorted out bro.

So it would be advisable for those collecting their new phev's to check the charger at the dealership upon collecting their vehicle.
