Dear all, beware of the billing if any of you or family or friends need to admit in a well known hospital in PJ, or even the emergency outpatient. Check and ask for the detail bill of what is being charged. They will issue you a summary, that consists of the high level categories, therefore you must ask for the detail of what’s in the category. What happened in my case was they billed me close to Rm15k, after dispute, the amount has so far came down to Rm13k (almost Rm2k wrongly billed).1)Billed more than 20days of nursing services when it should only be less than 10days. More than 200% “mark-up”.2)Multi Level Nursing Fees is charged separately and not included in the room rates. This is not known until you look at the detail bill.3)Nursing services do not include bathing the patients. Bathes are charged separately. I have asked for the “menu” but they can’t provide till date. This is not known until you look at the detail bill. Rm10/toilet shower, Rm15/dry clean on bed and they use the wet wipes which you bought from them. (wash car with Meguiars cost Rm15!)4)Wrongly billed medication and other items. The above not only happened to me, but also to another friend, when he asked for the detail bill, from about Rm1k it was reduced by about 50%, this happen in outpatient. For those who use medical card, even though the insurance company is paying the bill, do check because the amount claimed will reduce the overall medical card’s claimable amount. Eg. If maximum claim for the card is Rm600k and the bill is Rm10k, the new max limit is Rm590k, even though it’s within the annual limit, the maximum limit will be reduced. Know what you’re paying for. I was told there was a case (not sure if it's this hospital), a male patient who had medical card and it was found in his bill, “pregnancy test” was charged. Male pregnancy these days?...Erm…So, not only now we have to deal with price checking of car repairs, even hospitals now.

This happens in ALL THE PRIVATE HOSPITALS in Malaysia, regardless if you're paying cash or insurance claims. Bloody bloodsuckers; they're the main reasons why insurance inflation is at an alarming rate. They overcharge & inflate the medical industry. A single heart bypass procedure cost about RM25 - RM30k in 2006, guess how much is it now. Do you think your old policies can take care of your future problems? KNN la:cool:

bro.. better get the cough check out by a specialist.. Sound like spending too much time breathing too much exhaust fume from your UDM.

bro can pm me the hospital name pls ....? is it near to a roundabout ?

I wonder if they have different charges based on student nurses or qualified nurses....erm...

true enough. but for someone with a medical insurance, these situation is much reduce. why?

before a patient is discharged, a comprehensive itemized bill will be send over to respective insurance company. the claim underwriter will run thoroughly to avoid being s*ck up nicely by the hospitals.

so, no worries as insurance company don't want to pay more just like we do!

I bet insurance companies will check, but how can they check against the actual medication given to the patient, ordered by the doctor? Doctor could have instructed nurses to give 10mg of ABC to patient, patient received 10mg but then charge 20mg? Do they actually check against the instructions? Anyway, medication is pretty small in percentage in the total bill. I've also asked around of some other private hospitals, so far, 100% that I've checked do not have separate nursing fees. All comes with the room. Doesn't make sense to charge nursing separately, can someone stay in a hospital not requiring nurses to attend to them? Furthermore, they didn't even inform or have any information at all to the public that their nursing fees are charged separately, that there are other services not included in their "standard nursing fee" will be charged separately too...like bathing.....i wonder what else....erm.....

bro.. if you want to stay in a place without nurse, I recommend you check into a hotel.

if you want itemised billing for a bath, go to a spa.

I have insurance coverage for my family. I also have company coverage as well. This include hospitalization and surgery.

If you look at most hospital breakdown charges, the doctor fee are usually about 10 to15%. Most of the charges are for usually hospital facility related. Even if used 1 gloves, you are charged 1 box. Most of the doctors on compassionate ground do reduce their fees when hardship is faced by the patient. However, if under health insurance, they seldom give discount cos insurance company tends to take about 3 months to process the billings.

So stay healthy.

Bro, you're right, doctor's fees is only bout 15% and medication is only about 10%, the rest goes to hospital...I'm also fully covered, so is my wife...unfortunately, parents have past the age for coverage and sometimes, at a certain age, things will just happen...wish all hospitals will give at least 10% discount to senior citizens....

i truly understand your predicament jaleeks23. what i'm pointing is "what-if-i-have-medical-insurance" situation. no doubt there may be some discrepancies but i would be a minimal one.

i suggest you to refer to another hospital as choice is abundance. cheers mate!
