Beep on key

I got my E46 few months ago. Whenever I place my key into the ignition there is a beep sound. Lately sometimes there is no beep. So I wonder what this means.

Another thing is I started experiencing the car not cranking when I turn the key. After a few minutes the car will be able to start again. Quite irritating and a bit scary since I always wonder if the day will come when the car will not start no matter how long I wait.

Please advice me what is happening.

Beep sound is it meaning the Gong Sound ?
Your key is original diamond shape key ? If this is the original diamond shape key meaning is time this key to say bye bye to you. And this cannot repair, must make another key. But if this is China diamond key or square head original key then you just spend very little money to replace the start engine chip.
