Dear Seniors, I just bought an used E60 with 82k mileage. The previous owner never change the ATF oil before. last week I visited AB and have chat with SA and was told that it is not advisable to change the oil at this mileage if it was never change before. The reason given is the GB components/valves already adapted at the current oil viscosity and if we change new oil then it will cause issue to the fitting or sensor. Is this true and I believe we should change the oil as everything have their life frame. Looking forward to your advise...cheers

bro...topic discussed to death in other forums.google this.
generally the pegging is at 100k miles.if below,change.if above,don't.

ZF transmission recomendation oil change interval is 80 000km using ZF lifeguard oil.

Hi all,

GB oil change like a grey area to change or not to change well before owning current E60 i had was using a E39 2003 last batch M54 CKD was a AB car, i used the car from 2007 -2014 milage was 225km was adviced by AB Service Advisor that the GB ATF is life time dont need to change.

Using Japenese cars prior to the UDM i used to change my ATF & Filter at every 40k km so i followed the same trust me i never had any issues until the day i sold maybe i was lucky yet again it was a daily used car to work only issuei i had was the O-ring at GB was leaking replaced than it was all fine plus i use to drive it hard most of the time flooring it now and than.

for the E60 i going to do the same lets see whats happens can't go wrong by changing fluid and keeping it clean at every 40k km.

I do my servicing at Optimum Kayu Ara, Damansara look for Ah Fai or Jason.

Cheers

Hi bros, thanks to all the advise..seems like changing the oil now is better than sorry in future..

don't listen to BMW Malaysia, they are idiots! they recommend 30k engine oil change for F10, and that has caused sludge build up in the engine. In my mechanics place, there is a F10 520i which had to be overhauled bcos of sludge which was caused by the 30k service interval. i changed my atf when the mileage was 120k, and it didn't cause any problems at all (even though the atf was never changed before)

Agree with Bro gimli,

My routine:

Replace engine oil every 10K km
Replace gearbox oil every 40K km

You won't regret bro... Cheers

Yes, i was advise by IA not to change at 100k km also as it is lifetime. But i send outside to change. Was told either u change atf oil or later spend 30k to change complete set of gearbox...

Bulls**t! All the BMW dealers are misleading with their service intervals for engine oil as well as ATF. All the workshops apart from authorized BMW dealers that I'd gone to advised to change engine oil at 10000km (although I stretched to 11000km sometimes la) and 40000-50000km for ATF.

Did my first ATF changed at 160k km and reason being did this cos my 200k km warranty due very soon and hope some problem can surface after oil changed and ask for new gear box replacement .. But sadly said nothing goes wrong ( touch wood )after replacement other than smoother drive and more power at pick up ( expected cos new oil mah )

Have been driving for another 80k km till now and gearbox still doing well ..will replace it again at another 80k km as read from some foreign website recommended to change at least 100,000 miles to maintain the gear box.

My ride always whacked Gao gao during highway and very high mileage on usage . Heard from many veteran bmw technician to always Advise bmw driver to drive spiritly than keeping at house shelter to protect it instead.

My case may not be your case and I bear no responsible for any bro think that 160k km can be a benchmark to replace the ATF oil ...

According to Transmission maker, lifetime oil last for 80 000km.

maybe i am the not so lucky person. got my car E39 M54 last batch a AB used vehicle. 2nd owner follow AB service routine which is 20K engine oil and ATF is life time. at that time my car collection is at 103k. after took the car i proceed to cheange every oil except the rear diffetintial oil. and my GB give away at 130k millage due to to failure of oil pump. according to the mechanic my oil pump is stuck hence the oil could not be circulate. and my engine also give away at 180k millage hence overhaul needed........ thats my story......

now i change my engine oil every 7-8k and ATF 35k to 40K.

everything is good till now.........
