Hi all. i'm new here to this forum. Just would like to ask whether are there any forrumers here drive a 325i E36? Currently am riding a E36 328i, but owner that sold the car has mated a 325i manual gearbox. Found out the gear ratios is quite near, with top speed at 5th gear maxed out at 7k rpm. Just wanna know whehter its the same for the 325i owners?

Hmmm, somebody called?

I think your final drive ratio is shorter (meaning bigger number). Stock is 325i(M) FD ratio is 3.15, and there are many ratios out there. I believe the auto uses a much shorter FD ratio, so if the previous owner did not change the FD, you will get a rev-happy baby... :)

So, what is the speed at 7krpm 5th gear? 7krpm, whoa... you sure the previous owner didn't re-chip the ECU also? I don't think the stock rev cut is at 7k rpm...

On the 325i(M), 6k rpm on 5th will yield 220-230km/h (actual speed), but the speedo will usually show a bit more... all car manufacturers make their speedometers over-read to avoid getting sued and maybe to boost owners' ego...

LCP,

That is why, still dont know what FD is still in the gearbox. Must go direct and ask the mechanic about the FD ratio. This ration is quite good, acceleration is good, but just that at top speed at 5th gear is maxed out at 7krpm. At that rpm, already touching 240-245 km/h but not revving it up cause its kinda max rpm already...Yes the ECU has been remapped and tuned to the cars modification and there are no rev cut. Its equipped with a header, exhaust sytem and also high cams.

240-245? Okay lah, not that bad, should be some 3.2x FD ratio from the looks of it. Pretty powerful monster you have there...

Take note of the rpm at 110km/h 5th gear, that should tell you quite a bit on the FD ratio. Mine's just a tad below 3000rpm.

its arnd 3k rpm, 110kmh at 5th gear. It's 3.2 FD, then mayb should think to play diff final ratio?monster?no la...normal decent car oni la..

I would say it is okay to leave the FD it as it is... very revvy and fun... can't recall whether the 3.2x FD exist as 3.23 or 3.26, maybe someone with better memory power can help...

Go dyno your ride one day, and share the result here, I'm sure the monster in it would show up on the dyno charts... :D

Btw, the external case of the rear differential should have the FD ratio tag embossed on it, that will tell you the ratio, but then if a surgery had been done to transplant a different FD ratio into the diff, no one will know.

yeah, i guess someone with memory is better. Cause it feels a bit different. Just want to know whether any surgery has been done. Well, have done it in dyno as well...hehehe...Nothing so impressive, its arnd 210hp. Its really funny with the horsepower ratings vs real life performance, was side by side with Golf Gti(200PS) all the way to top speed, and no problem to keep up with Subaru Sti or Evo(280ps). Now i wonder why :D

210hp, at the wheels? That's a lot. Told you you have a monster there... I will definitely move aside if I see you coming (that's if I knew how your car looks like) ... :)
