318is G/box into 325 e36

is all about Gear ratio. Jsen u will get low range power but not on high. Maybe at 5 gear 3krpm u car around 100kmh instead of 110kmh or even lower. u get close ratio that give u more torque, but not on high end. i got this concept from Mitshubishi engine. Not sure if it same as BMW correct me if i m wrong.

U are referring to the final drive ratio, not the gearbox ratio...
the 5th gear in the M50 manual gearbox whether Getrag or ZF is 1:1. Only difference is the first few gears. Another is that the 325 manual gearbox are made to endure higher torque as compared to the 318i gearbox. However, the gearbox can still be used on the 325i if u don't intend to drag the car all the time.

isnt tat the gear ratios are the same be it 1st till 5th.. only tat the iS diff is different, reading at 3.15 n 325 is 3.45.. cox i went thru the service bentley service book... getrag tranny all has the same ratio.. although it didnt make sense n i was told it has a different ratios fo 1st till 3rd, but its stated there... im surprised when i went thru the book.. all ratios sama..

been sourcing out lately, even internet too has the same ratios... only the differential is different...

now im really confused...

My manual gbox is getrag, diff is lsd 3.15.

If i remember correctly, I test my speed 100kmh in 4th gear, i get abt 3.1K rpm.
So, i believe 4th gear is 1:1 ratio

If u managed to find the gearbox ratio, then what's the confusion? Anyway, I was quoting from hearsay. Even if the first few gear ratios are different, it won't be a lot of difference..

And I would say the 5th gear ratio is 1:1 cos I have searched before and I have even tempted to swap to the E36 gearbox cos the 5th gear ratio for E30 is 0.81:1 (overdrive), and it can't harvest the torque like a 1.1 ratio would at 5th gear but too many things to do for the swap.

the only trouble for u now is the long shaft, u MIGHT need to custom cut and weld the 318i long shaft to fit into your 325i. That's when u might get drive train vibration. Unless u can source for a half shaft meant for the 325i manual.

I have told you so.....only difference is the torque rating and that I have also told you what to look for in order to determine the torque rating

I dont think there will be any issues with the long shaft or drive shaft. Just replaced the diff. On the contrary, the iS subframe and driveshafts are different from the 325i. Well, that shouldnt be any issue as well. Basically its plug and play.
