Well put....:top::top:. Some of us are practical minded and do not splurge on cars... well, I only drive a Vios and my wifey a 2nd hand City (the 1st gen one somemore). The cars serves us well for now and we don't see the need to get anything more though we easily could have. And I even sold off my E34 because I have one too many cars to maintain... trouble is, I am itchy for another beemer now.

I just cannot tahan him for being so arrogant. He displays this 'behavior' in other forums also. Always nothing nice to say, very biased opinions and unproductive comments.

Well I guess having a$$holes like him shows how 'intelligent' some people can be. People are asking for honest opinions on a certain car because they intend to buy one. Weighing the pros and cons of each will make it more succeptable to avoid any unforeseen mishaps that might occur during the ownership of the particular vehicle. Every one does it.

We should all be helpful in this forum to our members coz some of us have those cars. So bashing up someone's hope of buying this car is just not right. So if everyone buys an Estima he struck lottery? Then what about those still driving Unsers? Don't try to be a car critic and rub in unintelligent comments to dampens people's hope for buying a new car.

Hi everybodi

I am thinking of getting either 2004 Alphard or 2004 Estima for the wife. Presently she is using the lousy tincan Toyota Avanza.

Any comments which mpv to get?

Alphard or Estima? Expensive to maintain? I heard that the Alphard 3 liter is a fuel Guzzler like the X5?

Initailly I was thinking of E60 520 for the wife. But after visiting 3 dealers incl na za, I found out 520 is not a good idea as it has engine issues known in this region and expensive to mantain. I have been pointed at the Estima or Alphard or even the Odyssey instead.

Any thoughts about the mpvs above?

Hi, it all depends on what your wife needs. Both vehicles are great people movers, with the Alphard a little more luxurious and comfortable. Engine and transmission wise, both are similar.

If you willing to spend a little more, then go with the Alphard, it would be nice for long distance family vacations.

Cheers

I say get the Estima and go all out VIP style with a gloss black paint job and chrome rims. =D
NO ONE will mess with ur wife. =p

All of the said cars are great... but your needs are the factors that decide your final choice.. you have got to answer to your ownself in all honesty what those factors are to you..whether buying it to flash around as well or strictly as a people mover and only YOU know the answers best..budget plays a big role.. for me , if i have to sit down and calculate properly just to see if I can make it , means YES I am able to buy it but I can't afford it in terms of wise financial planning with the limited amount of disposable income available. Buying a vehicle is NEVER a good investment, in fact not an investment at all.. IF the main role is for a people mover, then go for that reason. it doesnt have to be the expensive choice.. lets face it, market and demand plays a big role in terms of car pricing and popularity.. and even if we want something flashy to show off, you don't do it with a people mover even like the expensive velfire..you do it with a BMW, Merc, Lexus, Ferrari etc. All those people mover's attractiveness are sales gimmick..it's marketing at their very best. So know what your needs really are. for me, i'd go for the Hyundai Starex or a Naza Ria, value for money and i can still buy another e46 or lotus elise or other cars to that effect ,to have fun and also can flash around.. some people say" aiyaaa..naza ria fuel guzzler, that's why i go for estima, alphard , velfire etc.." well i say..very good.. be pennywise, pound foolish...spend an extra about 100k so that u save on RM 100 per full tank(extreme example)..just calculate how many tank full u have to use to save on that.. it's not like those other cars run on water..."but alphard's comfy" .. YEs it is undeniable.. very.. but is it worth the extra $$$ forked out.. with the amount saved, i can afford to put in a better seat , be it an OSIM massaging seat and full entertainment system in a car like the NAZA RIA and still be much cheaper..and it is still a very comfy car.. i have had an Estima before and for me it is no big deal.. and still have an Alphard in my company(heck it's ok la coz I am not paying for it :D ) ,occasionally driving it around , I still can't justfiy the extra $$$ over the naza.. it is really no big deal.. in terms of 'sedap bawak' , you dont do it with a people mover la..who in their right mind attacks corners in a people mover, right? u do it with your UDM laaar ...kan kan kan... but then again my naza still gives 500++ kms per full tank in city.. so who says it is a fuel guzzler... ok lah tu.. u just need to know how to drive it LIKE A PEOPLE MOVER ought to be driven.. plus my technician taught me how to sync the gears to get more mileage :) .. and since it is a meant to be a people mover and a cheap one at that , i really use it to the max as a people mover, moving bulky things, shopping bulky items and best of all, tak sakit hati, no heart-ache seeing it being trashed considering the amount paid for it comparing to a more expensive cousin..So, that means lesser stress..happy all the time.. :D dont care waaaan wateva happens to it.. then those around us also will be happier.. " Honey, the kids spilt icecream evrywhere with mud on their shoes climbing on the seats".."it's OK' ... but imagine that in a vellfire :D ... having said all that.. if u have the $$$$, why not... , go for it.. those are nicer vehicles.. BUT THE BMW WILL ALWAYS BE BETTER :D :D

Naza Ria that comes with the NGV kit is a good buy and family mover..you can get for less then 110k

http://ngvuser.blogspot.com/2007/08/band-new-mpv-with-ngv-conversion-kit.html

...really value for money and my friends son use to run around the gear console...

but if you want style and luxury and has plenty $ go for Merc R350 or the facelifeted R320 CDI AMG:top:

ask yourself bro..its you who gonna live with it..

here you go..

Alphard - Bread Van
Alphard Vellfire - Breadvan with 4 eyes
Estima - Underdone bread on 4 wheels

Honda models are way better looking. Saw the Honda Elysion Prestige 2.4 RM230K after RM35K discount. Way better.

I just saw an advertisement in Motor Trader. FULL SPEC Merc Vito going for RM170K (demo car). Very nice. More prestige than Alphard and bigger too.

No brainer candidate - the Hyundai Grand Starex. 5 years warranty, 1.9% interest. Runs on diesel, therefore makes lots of sense. 11 seater sumore.

The Alphard does look like a nice MPV, and I've been told it is very comfortable and roomy. However, I have this personal thing about buying a car whose name sounds like "I'll fart" . Kinda puts me off :p

Personally, I don't think I would buy an MPV. I would rather buy a 7-seater SUV if I needed that kind of space (X5, Disco4, XC90, etc). Then I would also have the ability to handle bumpy roads, some minor off-roading (or major off-roading in the case of the Disco4). But that's just personal taste.

Haha... if "I'll fart" is not your preference, u can take the "We'll fire" variant, same same nice MPV.. :D

I only know Yazid once cucuk an Alphard with his 525i and now the Alphard owner is looking for an E90 325i so can hopefully cucuk Yazid back, contact Yazid if you have one to sell.. :p :D
