Regarding da 'smoke', ur expansion valve is kong!

U can check ur fan motor.Give it direct currentlah...if it works, then check
da fan relay :eek:k:

Air con high pressure, get the aircon guys to check the valve & refresh the gas. need to rectify fast if not the whole system koyak lagi rugi.

Btw, to all sifus out there, how do i shut off the air-con unit? I am new u see. Mine is the e36 318i 1999 model.

I notice the only way is to keep pressing the minus button until the air-con shut off. Just wondering, on the long run, will this be damaging to the button. Is it okay to let it run and just switch off the engine? How come not like any other japanese car where there is a separate button to switch off the air-con.

Please enlighten me.

U dont have to swirch off the blower just off the compressor will do. (the button with the star * sign) this will off the compressor. u can still leave the blower on but with no cold air.

No need to keep pressing.

Another way is simply to press and hold until it goes all the way to zero and off.

Less stress on your button that way.

Cheers.

Hello... I just serviced mine not long ago...maybe can share something with ya..
U have white cold smoke wanabe coming out from your blower when you r in a high speed...please check the following.
1) Assumption your compressor is fine, moving at a high speed..
* please check whether it cuts off or not... ? the faster you go, if theres no cutt off, your compressor will turn faster non stop... at it may create a frozen aircond pipe... when it gets frozen, less air from your blower and u will have White smoke ... (COS ITS FREEEZZINGGG)
- if no cutt off, normally due to the sensor.
2) Check you valve and filter... (maybe something wrong and need to change)
3) next possibility is -> NO GAS... (huh... please put gas) ... and check for leakage

if need a recommended Aircond man... PM me... guess all UDM guys know who the best man in town..!! :)

I also noticed my aircond has been getting a bit dodgy lately. There is a slight but noticable hissing sound from the main louvre and the compressor (?) sounds a bit rough (if you stand outside near the hood). The sounds were not there before. Both sounds dissapear completely if its on fan only, meaning the snowflake button (AC) is off. The aircond is still cold though. What could be the problem? Anyone have any experience?

Hello Seb... will try this...
If theres a HISSSSSSSSS sound coming from the compressor.. likely its gonna EOL soon... When u off the A/C button, means off the Compressor..
(but if you off the A/C button and your compressor still moving... Hmmmm... WEIRD.. cannot beeeeeee ...).. When the Aircond pipehose still cold, the air from the blower will still give you some cold air... but for long BABE...

* take note, not recommended just changing your compressor... it has to be a set (min ... filter.. big fat short ugly squashed can)... maybe the entire system needs to be fulsh too... hmmm*

For details advise please look for the expert highly recommended by all BMW lovers...

Hi Thanks for tips

For No.1 not quite understand

For No.2 i will check on that

For No.3 i already refill the gas, so probally not this problem :D

dudes....my compressor died a month ago and I sent it to autoBavaria. they told me it could still be serviced, which saved me a ton of cash......Took them 4 days with the help of an external aircon repair shop to service the damn thing, RM600 just for the compressor service....and another RM800 for the aircon hose (they found it to be damaged too). My aircon is super cold now....no problems so far. However I also noticed the white smoke at high speeds....but Auto Bavaria claims it is perfectly normal and even guaranteed me the compressor is as good as new! By the way I also had white smoke before the compressor died one month ago......hmmmm

Imho, white smoke (mist?) may b due to ur a/c thermostat setting. Hav an a/c mech checkit out. :D

Hmm..i've got one question here..duno whether its related to the compressor or smth..but it seems that when im driving during a hot afternoon, my air con seems to be hot as well...but when at night or during a cold weather, my air con is cold...what seems to be the problem here ?

I sunno abt urs but when it happens to my a/c I usually read it as a symptom of insufficient a/c gas - cud b due to a slow bleed from a leak sumwher in da system or a sign of an imminent breakdn.

If the fan in front of your radiator is not working, first check the fuse - E36 uses a green fuse - check the fuse box cover to identify which is the fuse.
If the fuse is OK and the fan is not moving - change the fan NOW !
The fan helps the cooling system. If it does not work, not much problem at high speeds on the highway as a the flow of air helps.
If you are stuck in a jam, there is a good chance that your car will overheat.
